I bought an ‘01 530i new and kept about 4 years. I loved it too, but pumped out too many kids and wound up with the double SUVs in driveway

I’d buy a Jap luxury car if I was looking for a fun ride on the cheap.
My neighbor has an older BMW in his garage. It’s a beautiful car that I don’t think has ever ran properly. It’s his money pit.

I would love an old 2002.
I use to ride to high school with a buddy that drove an old 2002. It’s probably nostalgia that makes BMW’s appealing. I thought about buying one of those a few years ago.

Bad move, unless you are a BMW enthusiast that has money to throw away.

Volume and impracticability wise I’m almost where you are. I have a 20 year old Wrangler, a 1980 911, and a 1986 944 Turbo. Wife is not a fan of any of my vehicles and wishes I’d sell them all for a new practical (boring) vehicle. Too high, too low, too loud, too rough riding, etc... Needless to say, we drive her Acura when we go anywhere. Guess I could sell them all and clear enough for a new Vette, but maybe that’s also impractical.
PS - she is actually a good sport about my attempts to become the poor man’s Jay Leno.

Dig into the recall and repair reputation of what you’re buying.
Examples:
Go back 15 - 20 years and there were issues with the sequential manual gearbox.
Around 2009 some 3 series had issues with a low pressure fuel pump that turned expensive.

10 is too young for a BMW IMO.

Normally I'd say no to a 10 year old Bimmer but since you're already into this far with those 2 I'd say go for it. Assuming that you do your own work on the Pcars. Any mods on the 951?
If you DIY a 951 then a 328i is probably cake.

Can you work on cars yourself? BMWs are fairly easy to work on, and as mentioned, parts are cheaper than a Toyota if you know where to get them.
Dealership trips cost a fortune. Fake leather interiors degrade quickly in the heat.

I had one. Got rid of it right before shite got really expensive. I wouldn't risk it. Every repair will be $3k minimum and they are tough to diy on a lot of things.

You want it because BMWs seem to be popular in BR?

Not so subtle

No, haven’t really done anything on either car. Still waiting on kids to get out of college before spending money on them. I kinda like keeping stuff original though. The guy I bought it from was going to replace the engine with one from a vette and race it. When I bought it I felt kinda like a guy that goes to the pound and rescues a dog from being put to sleep. It only had 90K miles and was in excellent condition. Would hate to have seen it butchered up.
