You don’t need Disney to experience a good time with kids. That’s my point. Nothing magical about it. Go see the world and experience new and beautiful things without having to fork over a fortune to a corporation that despises you.

“That despises you”

Okay man clearly I replied to someone out to make a passionate point. Have fun

I find Disneyland to be a much better experience and my kids (now adults) still love it. I am going next Monday with my daughter and her family. My son and his wife are there now. The prices are crazy now but I’m looking forward to seeing the smile on my granddaughter’s face when she gets to the park.

Just got back from a Disney Cruise.

Pretty legit honestly. They are so good about keeping stuff tidy.

I am certainly not wealthy, but 5k? You must be going for only 4 days. We just got back from taking our youngest for her senior trip. We also brought her cousin along. Trip was 7 days / 6 nights. We stayed at Pop Century with the dining plan, no lightning passes, spent about $150 in souvenirs. After figuring in 1 day of paying for food, 2 nights in a hotel traveling there and back, fuel and the mandatory stop at Buccee’s, coming and going, I spent close to $8500. 4 years ago we stayed off site and still spent $6600.

Makes sense.

I can’t see a billionaire stressing over a fast pass.

We are doing Alaska cruise this summer staying a day before and day after in Seattle. ( going during World Cup so didn’t help cost ).
However I did a comparison a few months back comparing accommodations on our cruise hotel flight etc and looked at what that would get us at Disney for same time frame ,
Alaska is almost 2k cheaper.

Will take our son to Disney in next couple years to check it off but it’s not is #1 choice of places to go !!

Cost to travel is extremely high, but most of us are gonna take the trip within reason .

You won't get an answer to that one. Board is full of clowns with opinions that they project as facts. That's my opinion anyway.

Disney can KMA. Took the kids 15yrs ago when they were 10/12yrs old and while it was fine and they enjoyed themselves, by the time the week was up we were all ready to gtfo. I read these stories about what people are paying now and it just floors me. But it's your money. Light it on fire for all I care. We much prefer renting a cabin on a lake somewhere and enjoy the fishing, swimming, hiking, etc.

I will likely bring them once, reluctantly, when all of the kids are 7ish or older and will at least vaguely remember the overpriced trip we took to crowd and roller coaster land.

I can take the kids currently to “meet” Disney characters at pop-up events that take place everywhere for a fraction of the cost.

Hell, we went to Disney on Ice for a couple hundred bucks, and the kids were amazed and overcome with that sense of magic being discussed - and then promptly forgot about it. Glad it wasn’t $10K.

You gotta work the system better. Meal plan drives your price up. We Usually do only stay 4 or 5 days and by buying DVC points off of a member we get to stay at a deluxe resort for a similar price (maybe even a little less) than what you paid to go to Pop Century. I would swap out the meal plan for the lightning passes especially at MK and Hollywood Studios. If you aren't skipping lines at least 4-5 times throughout those parks its hard to feel like you got your money's worth.

I have zero idea how people enjoy going to Disney without Lightning Lane passes. We waited in line for 2 or 3 rides between our scheduled lightning lane times and that was way too much waiting for me. So much so that we decided that we’re getting premier lightning passes for Magic Kingdom when we go back in a few years. The multi-lane passes were fine for us for Epcot and Hollywood Studios.

If you're gonna be reluctant, you might as well save the money and not go. You will spend a ton and no one will have a magical time because of the attitude going in.

But I’m not going to spend $5k or more for LESS THAN A WEEK just for a damn amusement park. I don’t care how “magical” or great the service is. shite isn’t worth that much.

My kids can do when they’re older and want to spend their money. I don’t have many lines in the sand when it comes to my family but this is one of them.

That's fricking ridiculous honestly.

For a family of 4 lightning lanes are way less than $200 ($25-$35 per person) additional a day total. People forget time is worth money. You get to ride way more rides (or just have a much less stressful day) using lightning lanes for a fairly minimal upcharge, they are a no brainer IMO.

The fact that you witnessed it in your kids and STILL can't see the value of bringing them to the source of the magic for even a weekend is lost on me. If you can go without bring the attitude that you hate the place, you and your family will have a great time. If you go in bitching about the money and stressing about the crowds, it will suck for everyone.

If you're going in with this mentality, don't bring them. It will be miserable for everyone. 99% of the people that hate Disney World made up their minds before they went that they were going to hate it. It's just confirmation bias at that point.

This. I was a pretty vocal hater of Disney for a while. Then they had the cruise come out of New Orleans a few years ago. My wife thought it would be a good trip for the kids (7 year old daughter and 3 year old son at the time), so we booked it. I let her do all the shirts and theme night stuff and did my best to go into it with an open mind. Basically from the second we boarded, the wonder and magic my kids experienced completely changed my mind. We did Magic Kingdom and a cruise out of Canaveral last year, and seeing them experience the park was even more worth it. Have our 3rd cruise later this year, and will be back in the parks next year too.

As I said earlier, we do other vacations too. But I simply do not buy that there are kids that have zero interest in Disney. Yea my son likely isn't gonna remember much from that first cruise, but I remember seeing him experience it all. And now they both have memories from trips that they still talk about at least every couple weeks.

When they're a little older, we'll do Disney Paris so all the "go to Europe" crowd won't have anything to complain about
