Online Accounting vs Information Technology degree

I already know I'm going to get troll answers and downvotes. But before we begin:
1. I'm currently working at a good company. I just want to expand my potential for different positions and I feel that business sector would be a good fit.
2. I have severely toned down the job related threads. I would appreciate serious opinions.
3. I know that getting the Accounting degree will ultimately require a CPA to be taken seriously. IT has that technology aspect I'm accustomed to, but I'm concerned about the level of foreign competition.
4. Any school suggestions are appreciated? I'm considering Arizona State University.

Georgia Tech Masters in Analytics with the specialization in business analytics. Cheap, 100% online, and where jobs are moving.

UCONN and UAB both have online Accounting programs
ETA: My wife finished up her degree online with ASU. Format was user friendly, books were cheap/free because they were just PDF's, and the diploma looks like any other ASU diploma. It wasn't cheap though

Sounds very promising. The reason I'm leaning Accounting is because it's a tried and tested profession. I want something that can allow me to work anywhere. Nothing can beat Nursing in that department, but I prefer mathematical and technical skills.

Even if you get a masters in accounting you probably still won't be CPA eligible. You'd have to take probably close to 30 more business hours.

Either discipline is fairly future proof, until AI takes all of our jobs. However, I don’t think there are many people who would find enjoyment in both. There are similarities, but I believe they require different mindsets overall. Which one drives you? That’s the one to go with.

I'm more technically oriented. IT would honestly be a better fit. Many companies could use an IT guy.
The issue is that alot of corporations have basically pushed IT to third parties (ie India, H1B visas). I don't think that will shift in a major way, despite the new POTUS pushing pro American policies.
An accountant cant be as easily replaced. The issue lies in the CPA. Without it, the better jobs will be harder to land.

Then get the CPA. Yes it is hard; but it is achievable. Take a review course, study arse off. Will pass test.
Unless you are looking for a get rich while doing little work scheme.

IT and information systems aren't the same thing. One is compiling, warehousing, and manipulating data. The other is telling Steve in procurement to restart his computer when word doesn't work.

No thanks. Law school is quite hit or miss. Everything in life uses connections, but I've read that Law is almost exclusively connections.

Thanks. Good point. Maybe it's just the search engines, but I see alot of overlap in jobs hiring both.

IT, focus on development. Pick a stack and stick with it. Analytics or Data Modeling is always a big money maker as well and we can’t ever find enough good ones.

I'm all for the combination of business and tech. I guess I'm afraid that those majors are restricted to certain regions in the country.

It REALLY depends on what you want to do and what area you do it in..The East and West Coast are looking for Cyber Security people starting in the 70k range fresh (some with just certs, no college)..The Gulf region is looking for in house restart your PC techs and paying 50k with degree..

Are there online degrees in Python versions and dependencies? Because that hot mess deserves a PhD at least.
See if you can minor in Data Science Buzzwords. You'll be set for the next 20 years.
