again I really dont give a shite if they are GOP or Libs. If somehow the two people are going to schmooze and make traffic better in BR then i'm all for it.

@LouisianaGov: Within 24 hours, @WhiteHouse has already said they will help with fed funding for BR traffic @WAFB @La_DOTD
If they seriously do something positive I will have to say this is a win for BR. I do not agree with the pres. on a lot but this is something that every BR resident can relate to no matter what your political affiliation is. If they get some funding for something such as a LOOP? Or something about that Washington St. Exit I would be pumped. I'm not going to hold my breath but its just crazy one visit and a little complaining to the commander and chief and boom.
Of course the feds will help, the government passed a $300billion+ transportation bill last month. That bill included $100million/yr and a potential shot at another $800million to Louisiana in an amendment that Congressman Graves put in. The POTUS's visit had nothing to do with it.

Baton Rouge’s snarled traffic situation may get some relief, should federal lawmakers pass a new federal highway funding bill that now has provisions to funnel some of the money to Louisiana.
Provisions to address the much-maligned Washington Street exit in Baton Rouge, the widening of Interstates 10 and 12, and improvements on La. 1 and La. 30 were added by Republican U.S. Rep. Garret Graves, who addressed the need for traffic improvements many times during public appearances in Baton Rouge back in early September—the same week the state Department of Transportation and Development held public meetings on the potential widening of I-10 and I-12.
The provisions were added after Graves met with leaders from both chambers working on the highway funding bill, according to a news release from Graves’ office.
Under the current framework of the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation, or FAST, Act, Louisiana would receive up to $100 million annually and have a shot at between $800 million to $1 billion in federal grant funding annually.
The funding specifically addresses the Washington St. exit and I-49.

Meh, I would usually agree but if the money is strictly spent on improving the flow of traffic on an interstate that spans the entire country I think it is ok.
That being said, as previously mentioned we already receive federal funding for interstates (research why we changed the drinking age to 21). This reaks pandering and I will believe it when I see it.

Nor do I care, I'm just saying it's not really news, as it happens quite often and you see the clusterfrick that BR traffic still is.
I mean frick, Mary Landrieu pretty much painted her name in runway stripes through Kenner/Metairie I-10 with the amount of money she had appropriated to fix that shite and you still hit a log jam between Loyola and Clearview

Federal funds should not ever be used for local projects. How ridiculous.
And the City of New Orleans just received over a billion dollars in federal funds for infrastructure repairs. You seriously think the City could afford those repairs with all that culture paying their taxes?

Obamas must be planning on relocating to BR after his term ends.

If they seriously do something positive I will have to say this is a win for BR.

Yep, but unfortunately it is not enough money to finish I-49 from laffy to nola. We need $3billion from the feds and/or state to finish I-49. Vitter wanted to put tolls on I-49 to pay for it, but we apparently La cared more about his sex life than his highway plans. So 18-wheeler traffic will still come through BR.

We're getting a LOOP?!!!!?!?!

You do realize that a large portion of your gas tax goes to the Fed and is redistributed back out for state projects, right?
Not sure where Louisiana ranks, but SC for instance, gets only 0.94 per dollar of federal gas tax back. We are a donor state, where states like NY get more back than they're share.
LA should certainly have federally funded projects
