That’s probably close to same amount of school work they do AT school in 1st grade.

Bathroom breaks take 20 minutes.

Lining up for lunch takes 20 minutes.

Actually eating lunch, 30 min

Recess 30 min

PE 50 minutes

That was what 1st grade was like for you and me. You would be surprised at what 1st grade is like now. Everything has gotten faster as far as what they're doing in school. And it seems like the play time keeps shrinking more and more.

My son’s back at school today, and it’s about effing time. Full school, full sports, they even provide water now! Drop him off before 8, pick him up at 6 tonight...how it should be. Expensive as all get-out, but so worth it.

Sounds like they are making it about the students and not the teachers. Public school teachers by and large suck balls. We are seeing very closely the entire thing has never been about students.

That's it. We're paying our city teachers to print off worksheets, have a 10 minute roll call, and look at pictures on kid-facebook.

sounds like your friend just has a shitty teacher

I know back in April, my 1st grader had so many Zoom calls and assignments per day that we had a hard time keeping up

I think that’s what a lot of people are saying. There are a lot of shitty teachers.

Oh absolutely

which is a serious problem and the reason why so many kids are going to fall behind with virtual learning, especially those with parents that don't care or don't have the time/resources

Public school teachers and their union are shite. I wouldn’t send my child to public school for any reason.

I said from day 1 that if our school went online that I was gonna home school my kids. I’m sure the online schooling programs that are out there are much better than whatever Mickey Mouse BS they’d come up with

So a parent has to take time away from their job or quit their job to stay home with a kid to do the job of a teacher that’s staying home and getting paid full salary?

See why this is a problem, folks?

Like I proposed a month ago, if this is how it's going to work, why is it necessary to have more than one teacher for each subject in a given city/school district ?

you can put a 1000 kids on a zoom call. everyone gets the same direction and the tax payers save 90% of the costs

That’s ridiculous. I will be live teaching in person and virtually simultaneously all day.

And your experience is pretty much the norm. Unfortunately won’t stop bots from posting "My friend's kid..." stories on Facebook.

Because learning isn't just teachers lecturing on videos. Students will still do homework, projects, etc. That all needs to be graded. And if you're in a public school with ECE students in your classes or a mix of AP/Honors/Regular you have to provide differential instruction.

Cool. 99% of schools that go virtual are using the same online schooling programs you'll be paying for out of pocket. While still paying taxes to support them.

There are a bunch of shitty parents out there. But there also a bunch of parents who fall in the same boat as me and my wife who take the time (and make the time) to spend with our kids on their homework at night. But we simply do not have the time to teach it to them. Review and reinforce, yes. Teach, no. I think a lot of the "virtual learning" is heavily dependent on parents actually teaching to their kids, which they simply do not (and cannot) have the time time to do everyday.

I'm not even going to entertain the thought of "well you make a sacrifice!" Because that's retarded to even say. As if it was so simple as to snap your fingers and quit your job, and there would be no consequences as a result of that.

Right...which is what I said

not everyone has the time or the resources to sit down with their kids all day and make sure they are doing the work, that includes plenty of good parents

I'm not judging anyone for it

even for us, where my wife is a SAHM, we would struggle because we also have a 1 year old which takes up a lot of time and energy

We are very glad that our school is going back full time
