Once you reach (age), it makes no sense to ever get married.

Thoughts?

I'm thinking 45. I'm thinking most people are set into their ways by that age, and any potential partners have more of the baggage and less of the benefits.

A friend of mine just got married for the first time at 51. They seem happy.

I'm early 40's coming away from serious illness - it certainly would have sucked to go through alone. I couldn't imagine going through that in my 60s or 70s without support.

Yeah. Probably 40s.

I think the only reason to get married is to have kids, and I wouldn't want young kids in my 40s.

It’s actually a parabola and not a straight line slope.

Prospects get much greater for older men who are healthy, starting in your 50’s.

Yeah I don’t know if I agree on it being a certain age — if you truly find that person you’d change for them. Just my opinion.

I think theres no one-size fits all outlook. If you plan on having kids then obviously get married on the younger end for the sake of the child's health if you're a woman. Otherwise, theres no difference. People get married and re-married at all ages.

At least you’ll never have to share your beer, bank account, and gumbo

my cutoff was about 40 - I'v had relationships - some serious - but you're correct. The baggage accumulates, there are other obligations you have to take care of (I guess that's your own baggage) and I've just gotten pickier. I haven't given serious thought to marrying anyone in a long time and it would take someone extremely special to make me change my mind.

People may get set in their ways, but they've had the benefit of experience and collected wisdom. Having a conversation about life with a 25 year old vs a 50 year old is night and day.

Getting married late in life is a separate issue from why and who you are marrying late in life.

I know a lady who waited way too long. Now she’s married and happiest she’s ever been.

Age has nothing to do with it.

Combined income does.
