R.I.P. WAITR, I kinda forgot this existed.

quote:

“After 15 years of dedicated service, we’ve made the tough decision to cease operations,” a statement on ASAP’s website reads. “We write to you today filled with gratitude for your unwavering loyalty and support throughout our journey.”

Waitr Holdings Inc., the parent company of ASAP (formerly Waitr), is considering bankruptcy, according to a Form 8-K filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday morning.

On Friday night, the Lafayette-based food ordering platform announced it had ceased operations with respect to carry-out services. The company had already ceased delivery services on Feb. 13, according to federal filings.

Waitr Holdings Inc. is now “evaluating its options, including commencing a case under the U.S. Bankruptcy Code,” an item on the Form 8-K reads.

Who doesn’t want to pay double for a takeout order then give 20% to the driver?

Exactly, the take out and delivery thing went a bit too far.

I harshly judge people that use these services. There are special cases, such as a business working lunch that I can understand, but if you’re paying double for cold take out (especially fast food) then you need to address your own laziness and poor money management.

Between fees, tips, and my food arriving with poor quality the idea was a lot better than the execution.

I used food delivery probably 3 times before I got tired of dealing with it.

They had a carry out service? Who the hell would pay for that when you can use the restaurant App or call an order in for pick up?

During Covid one of my vendors sent us all Door Dash gift cards for a remote lunch meeting. I saw the price of having it delivered and changed it to pickup. I couldn't even do it with other people's money

I had enough left on it to pickup dinner for my family a few days later.

Was it though? If not for a buyout from Tillman Fertitta and then the delivery boom from Covid; Waitr would have shut down years ago.

Even with these things, they've been on life support as a company for a few years.

I’ve seen plenty of twenty somethings use services like Door Dash consistently because they simply don’t want the inconvenience of having to go get the food themselves. At the same time, they whine constantly about being unable to pay their bills on the incomes that they have.

Investing in them in Feb 2020 would have netted a pretty penny if cashed out timely

Inflated prices and shitty customer service rarely equate to longevity unless you can have a monopoly on something.

Ah, come visit the world of public education. That statement spot on describes how most of their policies work out in the end.
