I was the same way. I need a new pickup(f150), and the dealers want almost the same price for 1-2 years old as they do new. It's not worth the risk of not knowing how someone treated it. I'd rather buy a 10 year old beater and hope for best.

It's because of volume. In a big market, you can afford to cut major deals.

And hundreds of different people who rented and abused your vehicle before you bought it, farted in that drivers seat.

Considering you can get new for the same price and a better warranty, I laugh at that

Majority of people don't have the cash to pay for that.

Give me your best price, and Houston always beats the local yoacals.

If paying their best price instead of your best price works for you then I guess that is OK.

Last few cars I bought were out of Dallas, Atlanta, Jacksonville....
...Just flew into Dallas on a cheap flight, salesman picked me up at the airport....

Same here, I flew to Dallas for my last three cars and to Jacksonville to buy an 18' truck for my business. Not only could no dealer in this area come close to the prices, the selection was exponentially greater... no comparison, not even close.

This always cracks me up.

The same guys paying cash instead of financing for sub 2.5% would be insulted if you offered them 2.5% on a 6 year CD.

Saving $1,600 to $2,000 for 8 hrs of my time is worth it to me. The dealers there even give you a full tank of gas which gets me home to Ponchatoula. When I flew over in'06, plane fare was $120. To and from costs are minimal.

It's definitely worth it. Gotta love the idiots in here making comments like "well my time is worth more than that". They know damn well they are full of shite and just butt hurt that their local dealer options are garbage.

Some people just have a hard time accepting that there are better options outside of their little world and way of doing things.

Maybe... if you HAVE TO take what you can get, NOT WHAT YOU WANT... How many (CPO preferred on all) LR Range Rover's, Audi S5's, and Carrera S's can your brother offer and in what colors? And if he can't get any luxury models, how's his selection for a cheaper Hyundai Azera for my daughter's late graduation present? Interested in 2014', 15', and '16 models (45,000 mi. and under) in any of six colors (just no red or "camel"). I'd love to save a trip/trips out of town.

Back in December I drove down to Friendly Ford in Crosby after I spotted a new F250 (without nuts). About an hour into my 3 hour drive I called the salesman to make sure they still had it before I ventured any further. He said that they would have it out front and ready. I continued on down to Crosby and the truck wasn't there not were the two salesman I had talked to that day and the day prior. Waste of my fricken time and money in fuel. Went to Lewisville the next weekend and bought one. Truck friendly ford of Crosby

Last company truck we bought, was bought in Texas. The LA dealers weren't even remotely close. Not even the same ballpark.

Good deals can be had locally, but you have to be firm in your stance. They won't let you walk.

That's pretty much the point. I don't negotiate.

You go to a high volume dealer and they gave you $1600 off of a Honda? And you don't negotiate? Are you really proud of that? You could have easily gotten 3-5k off of a Honda in Slidell for Gods sake.
