For anyone interested in the topic, I highly recommend Fawn M. Brodie's biography of Joseph Smith, "No Man Knows My History." The title is taken from a quote by Smith. Brodie was a history professor at UCLA. She was also a Mormon. The Mormon church excommunicated her after the book was published, so obviously they didn't like it. But I found it balanced and thorough. I am interested in the history of religions, and Mormonism is distinctly American religion.
Thanks for this. I've recently listened to Ambroses' books on Lewis and Clark and the Transcontinental Railroad. I love learning about the development of that part of the United States
I'v taken the family to SLC and took pics in front of the famous Mormon sites even though we're Catholic. I look forward to listening to this bio of Joseph Smith. I had no idea he was murdered until today.

No one would die for a lie! Mormonisms has many of the same evidentiary items used to support Christianity and Jesus resurrection, but Christian’s aren’t intellectually honest on why they believe one and not the other.
Eyewitness Testimony
Martyrdom of Key Figures
Fulfilled Prophecy
Sacred Texts as Divine Revelation
Transformational Power in Believers’ Lives
Miraculous Experiences
Continuity or Restoration of Divine Plan
Persecution as a Sign of Truth
Moral or Spiritual Authority of Founders
Exclusive Access to Truth
Rate of proliferation.

I read both of those books and absolutely loved them.

You open with "no one would die for a lie" which may be one of the most ignorant statements I've ever read. I actually had to think about your post being sarcasm, it reads that bad to 99% of people.
I live in a town with more cows than people. We value our privacy which is why people choose to live so rural. Unfortunately there is a Mormon church in our county and they are relentless unwanted trespassers. If they would just do their own thing and leave people alone no one would care...but they insist on trespassing on private property to try and convince people to believe their incredibly stupid story of origin.

Either you're FOS, or she is not practicing. They don't marry outside the faith

Probably that, and knocking on people's doors wanting to spread the word at 8 a.m
Do they still do that? I haven't seen the bicycle guys in years. I could tolerate them when they came around. They were always respectful, kind and didn't push their faith and opinions on you. They were just spreading their version of Christianity.
The Jehovah Witnesses are entirely different story.

If they were respectful...they wouldn't be intruding on other people's property repeatedly.

From what I heard of what he'd done, good.

The propaganda video they show at the temple movie theatre is something that needs to be experienced.
I saw that video while in college and on a tour (there for a football game). The video was …… interesting.
I was far more interested in the two college age girls they assigned to give the tour to our group. They were both on mission. One from Sweden and the other from Hawaii. Both absolute smoke shows. Had the video not been presented, I’d have considered joining based on the tour guides.

Yep. It's funny as hell watching evangelicals make fun of Mormon beliefs. Like damn take a step back look at the retarded shite you believe in before making fun of others.

When I read threads like this on this site, it is always fairly sobering……I’m guessing most of the posters here are “southern”, and were probably raised around or in Christian culture. But there is always an overwhelming number who are clearly not Christians. When we don’t have massive support of Christianity in the south, it’s over. So it’s over. It’s really just more fulfilling of Bible prophecy. Strange how something based on “loving your neighbor” gets so much hate. And they call us weird***

Im at SLC airport right now about to fly back home after a romp in the desert. I'll give them one thing, the fact that they were able to will their way through this landscape and settle in these gnarly desert canyon lands is pretty mind-blowing. I watched a documentary about the hole in the rock expedition in the hotel room one night here and it was kind of mind-blowing. 250 people on that expedition to explore and settle the San Juan River region of Southeast Utah, and zero serious injuries or deaths. 2 births actually.

I finally got them to quit coming by my house when I was in my mid 20's and living in the Lower 9th Ward.
It was early one weekend morning when they woke me after a long, hard week of work. I wasn't happy to begin with and then one of them started quoting the Bible like he was Billy Graham or some other charlatan and I said I wasn't that familiar with the Bible.
Then the dumb arse said "Your ignorance of the Bible" and I heard nothing else after that as I walked outside and tossed one of them off my porch and the other beat feet down the steps. They both climbed on the bicycles and rode off, never to bother me again.

Ring cams are probably enemy #1 for the LDS bros.
