I've seen a lot of stupi shite posted on the internet.
Free Bird might be the greatest rock and roll song of all time. It's either that or Stairway. Your (or my) personal opinion don't matter it's general consensus.

The single greatest live musical performance in the history of mankind.

This is new to me, but may not be to some of you. So far it seems like a decent documentary about the plane crash.

It's great, but it has some really good competition. I've lived through an era of great performances. It's been a good ride so far.

Free Bird isnt even a top 15 Skynyrd song. It's mind-boggling overrated.
THIS post right here is absolutely a candidate for a top 15, dumbest thing ever posted in the history of this message board.
either you're trolling, or you suffer from low IQ.

Billy Powell's pre-gay Bud heavy on the piano, Collins and Rossington playing their arse off, young Steve Gaines filling in for the legend Ed King, Bra'less 70's chicks= The best live video of all time. Sonic of your choice to anyone that disagrees. Skynrd had that bitch Down South Jukin!
Never ceases to amaze me that they pulled this off in the bay area with a stars and bars the size of a tennis court in the background. Different time.

I mean , Skyrnrd has a lot of quality songs. Even so, you can't really say Freebird isn't a top 15 LS song, but I am certain you'll find many diehard fans will pick another song as their favorite

Didn’t see any. Did I miss it?
See the obvious St Andrew’s Cross battle flag design but no ‘stars and bars’

Ronnie Van Zant who in the earlier years was known as a perfectionist was now just an ill tempered a-hole.
This is truer that you even realize. Ed King told me some stories about how Ronnie treated groupies and it wasn't pretty.

Not really

Ronnie, Donnie & Johnny. I didn't realize .38 Special's lead singer was a Van Zant. Good stuff.

Free Bird is one my favorites!!

Are you saying this like this was only done back then?

This isn’t exactly true. He had those boys poised to be the biggest band in the world.
quote:
Piano player, Billy Powell had to beg for years to be a part of the band. Van Zant didn't think piano belonged in a band like theirs. - This appears false. He is very talented, however.
This isn’t exactly true either. The other bandmates have corroborated that he didn’t ever really show he could play rock style piano, and when he finally did they were like why have you been hiding that? Rossington even said they would have to take him down and just teach him how to clink one chord that is more of a rock style.
quote:
At this point in their careers, the band was heavily into cocaine, heroin, and qualudes.
This part is probably pretty true

By far they were from Jacksonville. However, some of the band of that era were from other parts:
Steve and Cassie - OK
Artimus - KY
Ed King - CA
JoJo Billingsley - MS

Oakland was much different back then.

Artimus - KY
Real name: Thomas Delmer Pyle
It has always tickled me that a hillbilly Kentucky baw named Delmer, who chose the name Artimus instead, wound up touring the world with one of the biggest rock bands of his era. That's perfectly Lynyrd Skynyrd.
From his Wiki:
quote:
Pyle lives in Asheville, North Carolina. He has three sons, two daughters, two grandchildren and has been married twice. His interests include cars, motorbikes, horses and watching reruns of The Andy Griffith Show and Gomer Pyle. He is also a vegetarian.
"He's a walking contradiction, partly true and partly fiction"

It was the norm back then. tThere just were fewer laws and regulations, even voluntary back in the day.
Used to go to the Texxas Jam back in the day. Crazy stuff. Kids passing out all over the place, it was just considered part of the experience.
