Most people at least try to keep their carry on in the bin above their seat, or across the aisle. There’s always one or two jackasses that board first and throw theirs in the first bin past first class.

We were also a much more homogeneous society back then. How much effect did that have? What else do you think has changed to cause todays current atmosphere?

Greyhound bus crowd. You are flying with the hood. There is no consideration about the space above your seat. Find a hole and stuff it in before it's gone. Apparently you don't fly much.

Every other week for eight years.

1. Why do they make the front of the plane board first?
Seems like you’d want the back to fill first.

2. Also put the connecting flight passengers in the front. They need to get to their next terminal.

3. Last of all. Put a frikin line five feet away from the baggage conveyor. Stand behind it.
When you see your bag….then go get it.

Air travel became more accessible to those belonging to lower economic classes.

Not only do they make them go first...they sell the opportunity for people to board early just to sit on the same exact plane they'll be begging to be the first to get off of when it lands. They know people will feel slighted if they see someone getting access to something before then...it doesnt really matter what it is. So rather than checking the bags they'll lug 2 bags and wear a sportcoat with jeans in July just so they can carry-on everything and have access to the bins to store all the shite they HAVE to carry-on. It's a constant comparison society we live in.

Airlines are making a fortune upselling seats to many people who just want to be able to get on and off earlier. It's hilarious, but works well for them.

On a side note, I only fly first class here and there, but it would seem to me that first class passengers would want to board last, especially if steerage has to walk past them, dragging bags and smacking them in the head with their purse or backpack. Why not board last?
If it's the free drink, then the airlines should give the first class passengers that drink while sitting in the terminal, and letting the rest board, then they walk on, take their seats, and go. I always board last when I'm in first class. So easy.

Unless I’m flying SW, I always board towards the end. Can’t stand sitting in those awful airplane seats longer than I have to.

I don’t think this is true as far as the airline is concerned. They have 7 boarding groups for a reason. They want you to pay more to get on earlier to get your luggage stowed.

But yeah, theoretically this should never have to happen unless people are bringing on more than their allowed luggage or not stowing under the seat as instructed. Pisses me off too but I understand the game the airline is playing.

The diversity is apparent, all black and White. All both genders and age groups. I even see good ole Louis Armstrong removing his saxophone in the galley on the right.

Ok. But todays business class is much more comparable to coach back in the day. Price business from JFK to CDG and get back to me.

Agreed. But overall I like that flying is more accessible and I get go fly somewhere for a long weekend without it costing a fortune

Let me give you some advice. Never bring a carry on. It’s too much of a hassle. Just check your bag in, and it will be waiting on you at your destination. -GAG

And what happens if my luggage gets lost or doesn’t arrive until hours after I do? This has happened to me before. No….I want an carry on so I will have my prescriptions, some toiletries, and a change of clothes.

A lot of people have never done this or have had a bad incident with this.
I have always checked my luggage and only brought a small bag that can fit under the seat with essentials. I have never spent more than about 5-10 minutes checking in or retrieving a bag upon landing. Been to many of the major airports in this country too. I will keep doing what had always worked for me.

That "society" in the picture is people with wealth. Let's not act like the average family was going to be able to have an experience like that then or now.

You’ve never spent longer than ten minutes waiting for a checked bag in major US airports?

I mean I carry on every time too but I somehow manage to organize my entrance, seating and de-planning without delaying and inconveniencing everyone else

Assigning the bins would be a game changer.

A game changer would be allowing everyone to gate check their bag.

Not if you fly Delta. And certainly not if you have priority. Let's be really honest with each other. Flying is a pay-to-play game. Plain and simple. If you expect to get aboard a flight purchased at lowest dollar from flightbangers.com for $129.99 and get treated the same way as me, after I fly ooldes of miles a year and stroke that check, IT AINT GONNA HAPPEN.

I don’t know man. I’ve flown enough to have a decent amount of experiences and can’t recall a time where people weren’t waiting at the carousel before any bags got released.

Even the times when I was forced to check a bag, had priority and sitting in business class, there has always been some wait.

Just last week I was the 3rd person off the plane and breezed through global entry. Waited at least 10 minutes before the first bag was released.

Maybe if you in the back of the plane and have to clear customs since you don’t have global entry, your bag is waiting for you. But based on your post, I’d be surprised if either was the case.

Better either way, the post that claims to NEVER carry-on a bag bc it’s too much hassle and collecting your bag at baggage claim is the ALWAYS the best option is false.

Because everyone gets two bags, yet there is not enough room for two bags for every customer. It only works because folks like me travel with one, or no, bags. If they assigned the max space for each passenger they would have to limit everyone to one bag.
