This is why it collapsed:

If it was one single rod it wouldn't have collapsed. Instead it was separate rods at each level creating a moment arm at the point of separation, i.e. shear stress, and the steel yielded then snapped.

Photo likely taken from inside Dean Corrl's house.

Kid never identified.

Also, I recall something about the architect drawings called for the single rod, but the builder misread the drawings, or something like that

The Silent Scream?

We were forced to watch it in high school. It's always stuck with me.

It was a field change proposed by the steel supplier as the length of the rods would have made them difficult to procure and transport.

The engineering company approved the changes, stamped the drawings, and was held liable for the approval. The two Engineers were disciplined and the firm lost its license.

There was high shear stress due to the two piece rod connection but the connection design was very poor to begin with and that contributed to the failure.

This was somewhat of landmark case for engineering responsibility as it is common for structural connections to be designed by steel vendors as part of the shop drawing process. The premise set here is if it has your stamp on it, it is your responsibility to assure the design meets code.

After you read the last two paragraphs and look at the photo again, it becomes more morbid.

frick me.

From the sounds of it I'm assuming it was about as painless of a death as it could have been.

Do we not think Dale Earnhardt died fairly instantaneously at the Speedway, and not later on at the hospital, as reported?

Just googled that. I guess I’m desensitized. Those are absolutely disgusting, but her body is so mangled you can hardly tell what is what.

You didn't come across the right/wrong image. There is a closeup of her head...or half of it. You can tell exactly what it is and it's pretty gruesome. And i consider myself pretty desensitized.

fatal accident of Gonzalo Rodríguez at Laguna Seca.

Damn, I watched the video in the link and that has to be one of the hardest head on collisions I've ever seen in motorsports. Knowing nothing of the crash and seeing the photo, it looks like a completely different sort of thing. He had to have been killed near instantly.

This photo was taken shortly after a fatal motorcycle accident on the Mountain Parkway in Kentucky in 2016. Looking closely, it appears as if you can see the deceased man’s soul leave his body.

He was pronounced dead later at the hospital.

Combination of ominous and supernatural

Either his soul or it looks like Jesus waiting to take him to heaven.

The boy that was also missing from Arizona believed to be the boy in the photograph was found dead in the woods by his house years later.
There has been a lot of forensic analyst of the photo and they have concluded it's not Tara Calico.

Looks like they just needed to cap both sides and run the rod through it...cap looking like a chain link. May have needed to put a fitting around the long rod ends to keep compression, maybe not though.

There is a podcast about the guy who killed her

Last Podcast on the Left did a 2 or 3 part about him, it’s pretty good, and I believe they said that pic is fake.

The way he got caught he pretty funny. He went withdraw money from an ATM while in a rental car, so he knew they would be onto him via the car he was in, so he went to return the car and the only car he could get in return from the rental company was the same name and model of the one he was driving

It is now, too. Have you seen the alien/bigfoot/monster videos?
