Which I'm guessing they do. If they didn't have much evidence he would be questioned, released and labeled a person of interest. They have already charged him with murder.

The fugitive task force was surveilling him and grabbed him leaving a gas station on S Parkway near 240.

That appears to be on the way from Oxford to Fort Worth where his parents live does it not? Looks like he was going to up to 40 most likely?

It's not so much about how quickly they arrested him, as much as how public they've made it. They must have some way to prove he was at the lake. Or have gotten forensics to find something in his car

I bet his phone showed his path and blood was in his car. I would also guess, as dumb as he is, that they recovered the weapon as well. It takes a while to run DNA on the blood, but ballistics on the weapon can be done quickly.
I am also guessing that they caught him on some cameras on his way to the lake. My whole post is just speculation though. We also don't know that he didn't confess.
