Just another overrated singer. If you want to hear any of her songs, I recommend this guy:

What it really means is that there is much more old music than new music and people can now get a hold of the old music they like easier. Even if new music is better than old, the shear difference in volume will keep it this way going forward.

No, but your post is further evidence that some people think that everything was better in the past.

The amount of existing, accessible, popular music has been continually growing for some time. The number of listeners who weren't around when that music first came out also continues to grow. It was/is only a matter of time before the exploration, by purchase, of the existing catalog of popular music outstripped/outstrips the purchase of newly produced music.

There was good music being made in the past. There is good music being made now.

Couldn't part of it be that there is a shitload more music to choose from in the catalogue?

GTFO of here with logic.

Even those with the most basic intelligence should understand this was bound to happen. Eventually sales of all of the commercially available music ever made in the history of man > music made in the last 18 months. It doesn't tell us a damn thing about the quality of today's music vs. any other 18 month stretch, but we have apparently reached a tipping point where the cumulative music of yesteryear is more popular than what is coming out today. I'm not sure why this is some shocking statistic. I tend to side with older music myself, but to extrapolate this data and use it as a barometer for the quality of music is stupid, particularly when current music outpaced old stuff every year up until 2015.

I love watching how these types of threads turn out.

1. Point out something old or something from the past is better than something from today.

2. Sit back and watch the triggered Millennials rationalize and make excuses as to why #1 cannot be true.

3. Rinse, repeat

I don't think "triggered Millennials" are arguing against the quality of old music more than they are arguing with the logic that led you to that statement. Your OP doesn't suggest anything about the quality of current music vs. old music. Furthermore, one of the specific reasons listed in the article suggests that the popularity of vinyl albums has a lot to do with it. Guess who is the most popular connoisseur of vinyl albums? Yep, hipsters, who are almost unanimously going to be millennials as well.

I like old music more.

But I like good data even more. This data is so flawed it's embarrassing for the author. There are massive variables completely omitted and the data that is there is being misrepresented.

- there's more old music
- doesn't account for streaming
- younger generations know how to steal it
- old people have more disposable income
- old people just like old music while young people like both, both due to exposure or lack thereof.

It's just a terrible data set.

Might explain why 80s and 90s songs are played daily on numerous radio stations that one could be forgiven if they thought they were back in those decades. Meanwhile all 6 songs of the current generation well they tend to suck.

Absolutely, but due to variety of ways to obtain music now, it has a much larger impact.
