Pretty sad. I think that is the only building still standing. Everything else has been demolished.

There are some really good urban exploring videos on the building via youtube.

I was down that way earlier this year and I ran into a Harbor Patrol Officer and he said he's heard they were talking about turning that building into condos.
Not sure how accurate that was since I've not seen any work being done in subsequent visits to that area.

Post Katrina, the buildings were deemed uninhabitable. The school recvd insurance money and donations to build the new campus. My grandfather was recruited from Chicago to play football and board at HC in 1939. My brother graduated from HC in 1989 and went on to play D1 CFB - QB.

Pretty accurate. There has been a decent amount of neighborhood resistance

The Paris Ave campus is great and clearly it was the right move for HC considering how well they’re doing compared to when I was there. But damn it makes me sad to see the grand ol’ lady in that bad of shape.

There has been proposal after proposal rejected by one faction or another.
The latest calls for renovation of the existing building for apartments and construction of two smaller buildings for same.
About 140 units.
It's ridiculous what needs to be done to move anything forward in the city.
Housing is too upscale, reject.
Housing is too "government", reject.
Project not ambitious enough, reject.

Sad really.

Hated class in that building. Some of the classrooms had no A/C.

Is there anyway to turn this into something racist?
If so, something will be immediately

It was a beautiful campus back in the day with the stately oaks and bordering the river. Amazing that HC was founded before the Civil War. Those Brothers did not play around when it came to discipline. Many a kid was held by his ankles on hung over the balcony.

I know a 85 year-old retired dude who used to ride his horse to school is very day at HC in the early 50s. He’d let it graze on the levee all day and then ride it home after school.

No telling how much crack is in the walls supporting the frame

Those old radiator heaters were pretty good though. I remember putting a kid in a headlock on that balcony and punching him in the head for like 5 minutes.

I really don't understand that mentality. They'd rather have a building in such disrepair falling apart than have it repurposed into living quarters and bring economy and stability to the neighborhood.
It's not like the grounds are not large enough to handle any parking situations where cars will be parked along streets causing more congestion.
There is so much blight in the lower 9th that you'd think those people would welcome change for the better. With more residents comes more infrastructure to serve them with supermarkets, drug stores, medical facilities, etc.

From what I have seen they are usually a small, but vocal, neighborhood group. Anything that looks like advancement from the 1980s is seen as not being authentic.

It kind of tears at my gut to see the old Admin building like that. I am surprised the old Brother's Residence and Middle School building were torn down. Those were solidly built buildings and could have been converted and used .
I spent many Saturdays working that campus(not my choice and it was generally involuntary)I find myself getting sentimental about the place as I get older.

I was on the tuition work program from ‘91-‘96. I’ve spent a lot of time in every nook and cranny of that place. It’s depressing to see what it’s become today. The new campus is great but it’s not the same.
