What are y’all paying for oil changes? I just got hit for $93 for an oil change at the Toyota dealer
I think I’ve spotted your problem
You don't have to go to Toyota or any other dealership to hit $90+ for a synthetic oil change, you can find it at Jiffy Lube just as easy

Where do you all buy and recycle used oil at? Walmart seems to be cheapest, do they take old oil? Is it a PITA?
Yep, good ‘ol evil Walmart.
I return my full dirty oil containers to my local Autozone they drain them for free(they recycle it at a profit I believe?) and they give me back the empty containers.

Trapp in Houma has a ladies day where its 20% off. Wife's Escalade was roughly $85 with 8qts of full synthetic. Can't buy the supplies for that price and they run it through the carwash too.

Base Oil from refineries which is used to make lubricants is $5 per gallon, barge quantities, to lube oil manufacturing. Then come all the additives and cost to package and transport with profit at every step.
Base oil is obtained from hydrocracking vacuum gas oil. It is only a percentage of that say 15%.

Filter $10 to $15 on avg
Dealers cost a lot less
Synthetic or semi synthetic
Napa - really valvoline
Dealer buys bulk oil cheaper and usually a good quality oil.
DIY’ers cost not dealer
5 to 6 quarts $5.50 to 6 gallon
Let’s say on avg if you did an oil change no labor cost.
$15 avg filter
$36 oil ($6 x 6 gallons)
$51 dollars (no labor added)
Washer gasket (usually less than $1)
Always change that gasket as it can cause a slow leak. I keep 10 of them in my tool box which cost me .32 cents each for my truck.
Gas vehicle 30 minutes labor.
Once you add labor and other filters and taxes it will go up.

I pay about $90 for one of those drive thru places. However, I know I'm paying more for the convenience and accept that.
Yep.
The OP is not wrong. I have used Take 5 for years now. You can get $10 coupon texted to you every time. Just google Take 5 coupon and put in phonen number and they text you coupon(no bullshite spam).
It was a good deal for 3-4 years.
But then about 1.5 years ago I noticed the same Fully Synthetic oil change with from around $65 to $95 after the $10 coupon. That's an absurd inflation rate for something pretty damned simple.
They aren't paying these dudes much more than before Covid and the price motor oil ain't costing much more at the auto parts store.
They also jacked up the price of their already overprice filters and wiper blades.
MFer tried to sell me $26 wiper blades last time I was there. I had to ask twice if that was for TWO. Nope.

They use to charge $15.
And these same blades are still $8-$10 at Walmart. What gives.

I feel like alot of inflation is real but there are some also alot of greedy MFers and companies taking advantage of people b/c "inflation".

See. The Fully Synthetic 0w-20 stuff cost about $30 from Walmart.
That's why I didn't mind paying $65 to have it done in 5 minutes while I sat in the car and drinking a free diet coke.
But $85 for a 5 quart change is retarded. I'm going back to doing my own.

People have a skewed idea of what an oil change should cost. Quick oil change places advertise a price for oil/filter for an absolute minimum and hope that someone will need windshield wipers or something else to make a profit. Because of that people have gotten it in their heads that $20 over the cost of oil/filter is somehow a reasonable cost. Reality is that operating a storefront service business is just very expensive.
Aside from that, the only person I would trust to frick with my vehicle is my mechanic shop. And he used to charge $150 and probably closer to $200 now. I don't fault him at all for charging that but I can change it just as well so that's what I do.

75$ with added fluids and a lube job. The key is the 15 minutes it took, it's
paying for itself by being so quick. Plus, Amelia is cute.

My last 2 oil changes at Take 5 averaged $125.
I got hit for $110 at Take5 and I was in a bind because I did not have time to do it. I have changed it myself ever since.

Take 5 charges you for the convenience. If that matters to you then any money spent iis money well spent.
