Due to less paraffinic crude oil being produced globally, the price of base oil is up. Base oil is used to make lubricants.
This is why Biden's approval of the railroad in Utah which has been waiting for at least a decades is important. Lots of paraffinic crude oil there up to 800,000 BPD.

Been going to the same place for 5 years. $43 the first couple times and would talks 30 minutes. Went up to $53 and took 45 mins. Post Covid it’s $90 and takes 2-3 hours on average.

I had my daughters oil changed on her Civic yesterday for $40.25 and they rotated her tires as well.

I just got hit for $93 for an oil change at the Toyota dealer
I would tell them to take their oil and filter back, put my old oil and filter back in, then go get it done somewhere else.

Depends - Synthetic vs Old School?
Mileage before next change? - Some of these synthetics will get you 10,00 miles and the service includes a top off/check half way. Some are 6,000 or 5,000. Even some of the conventional oils have additives getting you to 5,000.
Plus, the EPA fees for disposal and the newer filters to be able to go to the more extreme mileage.
In the 70s/80s, we only had to change the filter every other change, but changed the oil every 3,000.

Just paid about $78 for synthetic oil (Mobil 1) and a Wix filter for a Toyota. I guess that gives me about 15 bucks of time to make it break even, but at least I know I have quality synthetic and a new filter when I'm done.

Last time I went to the dealer it was around $50 so I was shocked at the $93 bill. Also I tend to think that the dealer will have better trained staff than a quick change place but who knows.

Base Oil and additive prices have shot up over the last 2 years.
A gallon of motor oil literally costs twice as much as it did in 2020.

Tell your wife to quit going there and let her boyfriend change her oil.

I pay around $60 I think for synthetic at one of the drive through places for my last car, Ford Fusion hybrid.
I just bought a new Honda Accord hybrid for my commuter car. Not sure how much it will be. I'll let you know in about 8,000 miles. Another little way hybrids save you money. Less frequent oil changes.

Synthetic bundle from Costco, filter from Walmart. Works out to about $30 per change. Takes longer than a quick lube but I know I'm getting a better product and service from someone who actually cares about my vehicle.

I bought a mightvac off of amazon about 10 years ago.
Takes me about 15 minutes to do a oil change on my 2016 Dodge minivan. Set the mightvac to suck the oil out.. change the filter from the top while its sucking oil. Then put new oil. I alternate the oil I put in depending on what's on sale. If I have to turn oil in at O'reilly's I usually by a filter (Wix) and oil thats on sale. But normally I just use a supertech filter and whatever oil I have laying around the garage from previous sales.
All in all oil changes run me anywhere from $20 to $50 depending on the grade of oil and where I bought everything. I normally do an oil change every 5k miles or so since its so easy.
