I've always had older cars and changed the oil around 3000 miles. Also always just used 'conventional' oil and never had an issue even tho my last truck had ~200,000 miles on it.

Recently got a brand new SUV and the indicator says I don't need an oil change until 7000 miles. I've got it up to 5000 miles and getting nervous. Am I good? Is this just the new thing, new oil, or cleaner running engines?

It probably takes full synthetic.

You're good.

Depends on the car, my car is every 7,500 miles and I use full synthetic. My wife's car is every 10,000 miles with a synthetic blend. Just read your vehicles manual.

if you want to stay in warranty, do this and never go over the max, until your warranty is up.

I go about 5-10k on my jeep, just depending on if there is a deal. Its easy to change as I can just reach under for anything.

My f150, gets it every 7k

Use full synthetic and you'll only need to change it every 10,000 miles. What kind of SUV did you get? I know some give you an oil life indicator.

This is one of the questions everyone will have a different answer to.

Most people are extending drain intervals but many don't check the oil level often (if ever).

If you're going to go for higher mileage intervals you should check and add as necessary. All engines use some oil and could need a top off before you hit your next oil change.

Just go by your manual. My only exception is if the manual says 10k, the most I'm going without an oil change is 5k.

My truck gets oil and filter every 5k. The fuel filters every other change.
My wife's vehicle changed based on the oil life monitor.

The oil companies did a great job conning us into the 3k mile oil changes.

I follow the oil life monitor on my truck. That is one thing GM got right. I always laugh when I get it changed and they put that little sticker that says to come back in 3k miles lol

That's not going by the manual then. But, yes, I'm at 5K, don't care what the manual says if longer.
