He works in motors and said he is on call every other week. He has over 30 hours of OT this week and clocked in at 01:35 today. Don't know if that helps you at all, but yeah.

Thanks. That gives me a good idea of the workload. It seems they are keeping 12-14 hour days. I can see why they need more Technicians.

Do any of you in the business have any catering leads? I am in the business and have tried to break into the oil/gas field business. The catering opportunities seem to be filled with brother-in-law deals. Any leads would be appreciated.

Mud Engineer/Filtration/Compliance - MI SWACO, Baroid
I'm in a similar position to the OP. I'm looking for an internship as a Landman this summer and I'll try to do that if I can when I graduate in December. If that doesn't work out then I'd like to go the Mud Engineer route. I've had the chance to do job shadows on rigs in Utah and Oklahoma and it seemed great for a single guy like me.
The only issue is that I have low blood sugar. If I can eat three solid meals a day then I can work like crazy. If not, I break down. Will that be a major issue? I feel like it could have been in the old days but not anymore.

I can't. I'm in the Bengal Brass and I have to travel to the Woman's SEC tournament during which CID happens to be being held.

With an actual eng degree, can you move up pretty fast as a "mud engineer"

I've been working as a derrickhand for a few years and was trying to get into mud engineering being that I had a couple guys that could get my foot in the door. As I was in that process I got an opportunity to get a safety rep job that pays way more than I ever thought they would be paid. Then an old friend messaged me out of nowhere to ask if I was interested in taking an MWD job. Hopefully the Safety Rep job comes through bc it pays slightly more starting out than the MWD job, which completely shocked me, plus it is on a schedule. It's crazy that all these opportunities have all popped up even though they are all completely different career paths. Only reason I have these opportunities is bc of knowing people, not for skill, degrees or anything else like that.
I may not get any of the jobs and have to stick to sitting on the tanks and being on the monkey board in miserable weather but its nice knowing I have a few options that may happen.

have you given thought do earning a 2 year tech degree in Process Technology? This would help you get on as an operator offshore or on land. great starting pay

I'm actually going through the recruiting process with Oceaneering right now. I was wondering what the starting pay could be for a ROV Operator. Finally making a change after six years.

Article on the state of the business. Like I said in this thread, the outlook right now isn't so good. Big part of why I am going back overseas.

I have been trying to see what I can do in the oilfield as a nurse. Maybe starting a business and what not. I hate working in a damn hospital
