Having gone through Katrina and no power and Sandy with no power then a snowstorm shortly after sandy with no power, I would take it being cold over it being hot, but we also had a fireplace to help out.

You can always add blankets and clothes when it is cold but you can only take off so much when it's hot

Would much rather cold than hot. Aside from stressing about the pipes this hasn’t been terrible and it’s been 10-20 degrees out here for 24+ hours with no power. You layer up and set a fire, it’s not ideal but you can make it work

When it’s 90 with no AC or power there isn’t really shite you can do.

Tell that to those with non power for over 14 hours with 3 degrees ambient temperature. Cold can kill you.

Well, we got gas heat, but to strictly answer your question I'd say it would be worse to be cold. But we had to go to son's house last summer when the e was out 3 days.

As someone who's experienced the joys of 130 degree Kuwaiti heat during the two times a year moisture flows in off the Persian Gulf (you Arifjan/Buehring/Virginia baws know what I'm talking about) and the joys of -56 degree cold in an undisclosed location where our heater fuel (DF2) was freezing, I can honestly say I'd take the cold over the heat all day, every day and twice on Sunday.

You can always put more clothes or grab another blanket.

You can only get so naked though.

Cold was better for a day but the longer this goes the more dangerous it feels. I can stand hot and uncomfortable for an indefinite amount of time. We'll be sleeping in a running car tonight to survive if we don't get power back today.

Edit I fricked up the Q prompt. It’s much worse sleeping at night when it’s hot with no power

The OP did.

Originally the title was phrased asking which would you prefer and in the text it seemed he was possibly asking the inverse, but then the OP went and edited it, turning it completely around after multiple answers.

At this point I can’t tell in what situation any responder would rather be.

I just went through a night with no electricity, no fireplace, all electric, I’d take cold again.

I wore slippers/ sweatpants. Sweatshirt, gloves under 3 blankets and slept pretty decent. Power back at 6:30 this morning. Thank the Holy Ghost!

My cat runs at 102 degrees and he was cold too and snuggled next to me. He was a life saver. So get a cat.
