So I asked in another thread earlier and probably should have made its own thread. But I'm just east of all of this winter storm mess and reading about all of the power outages throughout TX and LA got me thinking of what I would do. All of my utilities are electric and I don't have a generator.

So, for you East TX and LA baws, which is worse for you?: No power after an August hurricane? Or, no power with sub-freezing temps?

I'd have to say the cold is worse, but the other thread seemed to be 50/50.

Cold.

Being hot without power sucks sweaty balls.

Cold preferred
Edit I fricked up the Q prompt. It’s much worse sleeping at night when it’s hot with no power

I would have said hot just a few years ago.

Now, it's definitely cold.

Hot will make you miserable; cold can kill you.

I’d take cold over hot

You can layer until you’re warm, but there’s an extremely finite amount of un-layering you can do if it’s sweltering

No power and hot is worse imo. Carpets and floors are drenched from the humidity. You can always throw on some blankets and a few layers of clothes. It's not like it's 30 below.

No power and hot

I can put my beer outside to keep it cold in the winter. No such luck in August after a hurricane

Let’s see:

Hot: sweaty balls, mild discomfort
Cold: hypothermia

I’ll take hot over cold any and every day.

I’ll take this all day long. Have a fireplace and I can just open up freezer outside and be fine. Have to put stuff from fridge in yeti so it doesn’t freeze.

No power and hot. When its cold you can stick your perishables and beer and milk in an empty ice chest and stick it outside, won't go bad

Friend,

It is far easier to be comfortable when it is 30 degrees inside than when it is 95 degrees. For that reason I would rather have no power in the cold. Another reason is that we have two wood burning fire places that do not depend on the grid for heating.

Far more people die of heat stroke than hypothermia.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

Hot is way worse IMO. Plus the humidity factor will destroy your home. I can find ways to stay warm.

No matter how cold it gets, in Arkansas and Louisiana you have plenty of blankets to add and go to sleep.

Summer and no air, there’s no relief.
