Tell Lori I love her has to be one of the saddest songs ever written in context

Sam Cooke and Marvin Gaye…

Sam was only 33 when he was killed. Marvin was 45. While the latter was a bit older in the world of music, his influence on Motown was huge. I wonder what he would have done in his later years.

So if they perform someone else's song, that makes them a cover band? I have some bad news for you then.

Whoa whoa whoa

I NEVER said that. I love Led Zeppelin.

But early on they did a lot of inspired covers and made them their own, like MANY bands. Beloved bands and beloved songs, a ton of them written by people other than the ones that performed the song.

Ronnie Van Zant
Tupac
Kurt Cobain
Bradley Nowell

Tupac was an artist. The thug life was an act. He went to high school at Baltimore School for the Art. He could have been a great actor or musician.

George would've been the only one who would need convincing.

At the very least, a Paul/John project was brewing before the assassination.

Which is true of damn near any artist/band you want to name. Trying to figure out how that gets Zeppelin singled out as a cover band.

It wasn't you that I first responded to, so I'm confused anyway.

Ronnie Van Zant (29)

Then:
Steve Gaines (28) - talented guitarist and songwriter. Paired with Ronnie, their best music was still ahead of them.

Stevie Ray Vaughan (35) - arguably the greatest blues guitarist
Duane Allman (24) - arguably the greatest slide guitarist
EVH (65) - way too young for the GOAT
Jim Morrison (27) - was not a huge Doors fan but his voice was mesmerizing

including the Beatles, one of the(many) innovative things about them was they were among the first groups to eventually write their own music, lyrics, and play their own instruments in the studio to record their music
