but you really have about $30 million once it gets to your hands

Ill save my income tax soapbox sermon but even 30000000 invested at the most conservative returns is close to a million a year without ever touching the principal. If you cut that in half and live off 500,000k a year which is very comfortable anywhere outside of LA and the Northeast, you can easily grow that to generational wealth. I guess perspective is everything.

Yep. I was thinking the same thing. Odell isn't a kid from the projects or poor upbringing. If any pro athlete should know better, he's definitely one of them.

This is gonna get lost in this discussion, but he did make a decent point about the 100M deal really being 60M.

Players rarely get the headline number (I bet this is especially true for highly paid WRs and RBs).

That's BEFORE taxes, agent fees, etc.

In his example, he was talking about that $60M being after taxes. Not about how they may not see it all because the backend of the deal is usually inflated with non-guarantees that many players won't see if/when the teams cut them.

Per OTC, OBJ was paid $83.6M over 9 seasons.

He should know better because he went to the most expensive private high school in the state and grew up with nothing but rich kid friends.

That makes his whining like 10x worse in my book.....you're right, he knew better but didn't care.

I did like how he talked about buying his momma a house.

Bro you grew up in a well to-do upper middle class family. His parents had a nice house long before he went to the NFL.

Bro, an NFL player is so out of touch, you cannot justify this. He saw money most people see as their gross paycheck at the end of the year. What he would blow on a a shopping trip or a stirp club night is my yearly pay. frick that. Now if he only netted about 2 million, I'd feel bad. New York is very expensive and when you're out of work, well you're shite outta luck as being a player. Guy was in commercials, probably on tv shows, no telling what other advertisements. After his first season, OBJ was everywhere.

Justify what?

The fact that the headline number and what a player actually grosses over the life of the contract are often wildly different?

You have to remember, most of the OT has never interacted with people that actually have any money

In their case, it’s often not. You can’t live in Walker and play for the Giants or Rams or Eagles

Because people think that these guys get paid 100M when they sign a 100M NFL deal. The team will VERY rarely pay 100M over the life of that contract. Sometimes significantly less. Even the "guaranteed" money as reported in NFL contracts isn't fully guaranteed.

He was getting $6M/year from Nike alone

The entire point of his post is he netted about $2 million a year off that deal. It’s really not that complicated

He could spend $1 million a year for 50 years-he'd be in his 70's by then and either presumably done with that lifestyle or in the grave..

Rough life...

Ok that genuinely pissed me off. Yes Odell. I could make 60 million after taxes last multiple life times. Spoiled twat.
