Ochsner was bloated af 7 years ago. A local company that rapidly became a regional company but there was a ton of middle and upper management that had a local mindset and work ethic.
This website basically proves that more than anything…..

Ochnser like most hospitals have a shortage of direct patient care workers especially nurses. From what I read some employees that are on the chopping block will get offered positions in direct patient care.
Probably did a study and found out exactly how many nurses were in jobs that weren’t direct patient care and this is a way to push them out of positions that aren’t necessarily needed and back into patient care. Kills two birds with one stone. Helps boost the numbers of nurses while also trimming positions that aren’t needed.

That's a weird way of saying "swallowing loads from Pfizer".

Go sign on at a different hospital and get a bonus instead of moving positions within Ochsner

Looks like they're cutting a bunch of middle management positions that's not bringing in money.
Sucks, sorry to hear.

Yep. “I’m just getting it to keep my job.” Job: “Well, it’s been fun…” Your job is never “safe.”

There are too many VPs and unnecessary management positions. Also people getting paid to do nothing. They should have done this a while back.
I think this is true across the board and a lot of companies really saw it better with COVID - in such that X person is really expendable in a daily setting.
I always think of the guy in Office Space. “I work with the god damn customer! I’m a people person!”

Yeh if you are in the salary range of 90-150k at Ochsner you are likely in the firing zone

Agreed. I did strategic cost takeout at one of the B4, every company we talked had bloat.

That was evident when I left in early 2021. I could never offer a straight answer to surgeons that needed answers because I was left in the dark on certain things that they needed to know, even though I was administratively and clinically responsible for my area. I couldn't enforce/change things needed for my area, but yet was responsible for the frickups caused by the rungs above me. Of course, my title and role/responsibility said otherwise. I was brought in to improve/change an area and was hamstrung from the start because certain administrators higher up weren't onboard with this particular restructure. Absolute waste of time and none of them were interested in actual change for the betterment of the department. This was in their cash cow of Surgery. Dear Facebook!

I do wonder how many of those cut were working from home. If you can do your job from your house, they will find someone in India to do it for a fraction of the salary. Doesn’t matter to them if said Indian doesn’t do it as well.

I don’t really agree with this outside of heavy technology positions.

If you dont generate/increase revenue you are expendable
Very few hospital administrators really increase revenue

The hard question though is knowing who in admin is needed. Because the truth is doctors will absolutely gorilla frick a business if given the opportunity. They basically murdered their half of Ochsner before they sold it

You don’t want to outsource IT for a healthcare company that’s highly regulated. Trust me.
Posted on 5/11/23 at 9:04 am to lsupride87
Well healthcare has only gotten more cumbersome and expensive since administrators got involved

Bingo - what drives patients to any health system?
Location, name/reputation, or a particular doctor
Not an administrator
All the administrators do is micromanage the clinical staff decreasing job satisfaction and impairing productivity
Ochsner has failed to invest in their people - the clinical staff - and the consequences are showing.
Many will stay because of geographical constraints and the fact that Ochsner is such a large employer but many that can leave are leaving.
Not to mention the entire department of DEI which didn't even exist what 3-4 years ago and now who knows how much $$$ it consumes and for what...
Shame because Ochsner has so many great doctors and departments

But the truth is doctors frick up even more royally when trying to run the show(as a whole)
Then it becomes a dick measuring contest between the two sides
