Ice age in Europe and sea-level rise in cities such as Boston and New York,

Contradicts itself right there. An ice age leads to a dramatic lowering of sea level as vast amounts of water get trapped in ice

ETA: these asshats are too arrogant to realize the earths climate is cyclical

The answer is right there in the wall of text you posted.
quote:

Currents. Currents put motion in the ocean! Tides involve water moving up and down; currents involve the movement of water back and forth. Currents are driven by several factors. Tides are one of these. Wind, the shape of the land, and even water temperature are other facts that drive currents.

This is the part that is weakening the current. Water surface temperatures rising prevents deep water formation.

We are already doing this because of the war. Its raising the cost to you at home currently.

So you cherry pick one thing out of several, and no doubt the least of the denominators, and hang your hat on that?

You think a periodic change in temperature based on a "hot Summer" which still has not met most of the records of 1936, not to mention the small sample size of temperature of less than 200 years, changing technology and global coverage, and negate the power of the gravitation pull of the Moon, Winds, Shape of teh continents, rotation of the earth and several other factors (not mentioned) and go with the cast off statement that starts with "even". The fact that it is the end of the list and starts with "even water temperature" is more like a fun fact not a major influencer. But Ok, bold strategy.

The critical think has died in society. It truly is staggering.

No. It is a change that has been happening for decades. The current has weakened 15% since 1950.

You can find a lot more info on it searching Irish news because the Gulf Stream has a much bigger impact on their weather than other places. This isn't new to them, they've been discussing it for years.

quote:

The researchers from Ireland, Britain and Germany have compiled data taken mainly from natural archives in the form of ocean sediment or ice cores – going back hundreds of years – to reconstruct the flow history of the Gulf Stream. They found consistent evidence its slowdown during the 20th century is unprecedented in the past millennium. The giant ocean circulation has an impact on the climate of northwestern Europe.

Previous studies showed a slowdown of the ocean current of about 15 per cent since the mid 20th century, “but a robust picture about its long-term development has up to now been missing. This is what the researchers provide with their review of results of proxy data studies,” he said.

"Instead of relying just on one data set, we used a combination of several different and largely independent proxy indicators to reconstruct the evolution of the Amoc over the past 1,600 years," said lead author Levke Caesar of Icarus climate research centre in Maynooth University.

The data indicate the Gulf Stream was relatively stable until the late 19th century. With the end of the little ice age in about 1850, the system of ocean currents began to decline, with a second, more drastic decline following since the mid-20th century.

sea-level rise

I’m late to this party, but they’re saying an ice age would raise sea levels now?

So melting ice causes a rise and freezing ice causes a rise.

I guess we’re just fricked now matter what.

"they" are stupid for saying ice age, the author of the article likely didn't even understand the data presented.

there could be a sea-level rise on the american east coast and cooler temperatures in Northern Europe/Ireland with a continued weakening/destabilization of the Gulf Stream/North Atlantic Current.

edit: or maybe they just wanted a click-baity title and figured noone would read the research/data

Someone needs to choose and stick with one.

The Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) – a large system of ocean currents that carry warm water from the tropics into the North Atlantic – could collapse by the middle of the century, or possibly any time from 2025 onward… If it were to happen, it could bring about an Ice age

NOW - UN chief claims "the era of global warming has ended, the era of global boiling has arrived."

I'll simplify it for you, "Ice Age" and "Global Boiling" are meaningless terms meant to generate headlines.

This is their "get ready for it" excuse as to why there will be a decrease in tropical storm activity during the current 11 year cycle cooling cycle.
