Washington post article

“Smoking has been the No. 1 preventable cause of cancer for decades and still kills more than 500,000 people a year in the United States. But obesity is poised to take the top spot, as Americans’ waistlines continue to expand while tobacco use plummets.

The switch could occur in five or 10 years, said Otis Brawley, a Johns Hopkins oncologist and former chief medical officer of the American Cancer Society. The rise in obesity rates could threaten the steady decline in cancer death rates since the early 1990s, he said.

Yet only about half of Americans are aware of the link between excess weight and cancer. And researchers are struggling to answer such fundamental questions as how surplus weight increases the risk of the disease and whether, conversely, losing weight helps prevent cancer or a recurrence.”

About 7 in 10 Americans are overweight or obese, according to a 2015 article in JAMA Internal Medicine. People are considered overweight if they have a body mass index (BMI) of 25 to 29, and obese if they have a BMI of 30 or more.”

For fricks sake people, lay off the soda and hit the gym. I don’t have time is a piss poor excuse

If you're looking to lose weight, cigarettes are an excellent appetite suppressant.

I can't wait for the liberals to lose their mind when the government comes out with a stop obesity campaign just like smoking.

Remember that dating app commercial where if there was someone smoking in their picture they turned them down? The moral of the story was smoking isnt sexy and you wont get a date if you smoke. Imagine that commercial where they are sayin you aren't sexy or won't get a date if you are fat. The left would lose their damn minds.

Personally, I believe it was banning smoking in most businesses is what really killed the widespread use. Good luck banning fat people.

being fat is a systemic effect of the patriarchy denying fresh foods to poor areas and making low IQ individuals think eating healthy is "feminine"

I’ve been considered overweight ever since I weighed 185. I’m 6ft 1in. Now I weigh 200. I’m sure I’m in the morbidly obese category now. They need to change the standards because it’s really skewing the numbers. They want everyone to be 5ft 10 and 140 pounds, but that’s not healthy either.

200 lbs at 6'1 is pretty fat unless you're pretty swole

Underserved folks are fat because of food deserts.

I’m about that size and people constantly tell me that I’m too skinny. I know I’m not, but that is the public perception. If I was 150 people would think I was dying.
