Question, weren't they already doing re bottling because of the "date of brewing" label you see on most beers now? or is that just stamped on?

legislating it

Stamped on in most cases. Or electronically ink printed.

One more reason to avoid chain restaurants

I don't see anything wrong with posting calorie amounts. Can only help with decisions with what to drink. It's information I would like to know. Don't like that we are legislating it though.
I don't like obama but this one doesn't bother me because you are correct. The way I read it is local breweries can still sell to all but pretty large restaurant chains. Does it hurt trying to get a tap in a place like Fridays? Yeah, it will make that impossible unless you provide your nutritional info.

I have a problem with the government legislating unwarranted things like this
especially when it hurt small business

Thanks. I've been curious about that after discovering really old beer at a neighborhood Albertson's a few months ago.

Surely it doesn't cost $77k to determine how many calories are in a specific beer?? I'm skeptical hippo on this

This is so stupid. People drinking craft beer aren't worried about counting calories. Those people drink Michelob Ultra.

Why would a smaller brewery bother with the labeling?
Because they want their beer to be at a place like Flying Saucer or Mellow Mushroom (believe that Little Rock has both of them) and they wouldn't be allowed to sell their beer at those places otherwise.

I try to avoid them as much as possible myself, but sometimes it just happens. It is always nice when there's a decent option but I guess there won't be anymore.

I don't see a problem with it if the companies chooses to do it, I see a problem with government mandating it.

I'm skeptical on the $77k number as well as its probably more when you factor in new labeling of all beers and whatnot
this might cause a lot of smaller breweries to release fewer beers in cans/bottles and more in draft only

Do you think that information will stop people from buying or consuming craft beer? Because I don't care at all...if I want a craft beer, or any beer, I'm basically saying I don't care about my calorie count for the night.

I see single payer government run breweries in our future.

You really believe it costs $77k to figure out the caloric content of a beverage and put it on the label that already exists?

Small business / Like most regulations, this one will affect small businesses more than their larger competitors. The HHS concedes the measures will have a “significant economic impact on a substantial number of small entities,” and noted that approximately two-thirds of the regulated entities are small businesses, largely because of the prevalence of franchised entities in food service. Based on the HHS’s estimates, the menu labeling rule will impose per-entity costs ranging from $49,000 to $77,000. According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the typical food service employee earns $22,000 annually. Thus, the new rule essentially costs a business the equivalent of two to 3.5 employees, without doing a thing to increase sales or boost productivity

I guess "pretty large" is up for debate, but there are plenty of craft beer focused chains that have more than 20 locations.
And why should that matter? If they really want to force breweries to put nutritional info on labels, it should really be based on the size of the brewery, not the size of the restaurant that carries their beer.

yes...the cost and if you don't do it, you can't have your beer in larger chains, which is generally high volume accounts for small breweries

No, not at all
which is why it is useless, unwarranted legislation
