I imagine you have to pay a lab, pay the government by submitting the form to them that proves you paid a lab.

Afford the $77k penalty or afford posting the nutritional info?
Afford the labeling.

to pad the market for the big guys. A requirement like this is a good idea, but should be based on bbl per year brewed
This. These regulations are put into place to keep the small businesses from gaining a foothold.
Our lawmakers (on both sides of the aisle) are corrupt pieces of shite.

You really believe it costs $77k to figure out the caloric content of a beverage and put it on the label that already exists? I have my doubts

Can only help with decisions with what to drink. It's information I would like to know. Don't like that we are legislating it though.

Got ya.
Obama sucks
But it wouldn't seem to be that hard, but again...I don't care about calories

I don't see anything wrong with posting calorie amounts. Can only help with decisions with what to drink. It's information I would like to know. Don't like that we are legislating it though.

This. My favorite breweries cater to local restaurants that aren't chains. If anything this will encourage more gastropubs because they won't have to adhere to these label restrictions.
Well, if you are a small business, and want to be successful, you want your product out to as many markets as possible.
Take Parish here locally? How many large chains are they in? Buffalo wild wings, hooters, world of beer, basically anywhere in louisiana that sells beer has parish. So now they have to fork over $80k that could have gone to either expansion, promotions, salaries, etc...
There is literally no need for this regulation. It is simply a tool to punish small business that is under all out assault as it is under this current administration, especially due to Obamacare.

how many different beer?
cans or bottles?
you have to re-do all your labels for all your beers
re printing cans is expensive
you are obviously really ignorant on this issue

that isn't the problem

Of course. You are surely right.

The FDA is doing the same thing with premium cigars and pipe tobacco. If it goes thru as it's currently written will probably put a lot of cigar makers out of business.

I would imagine they have to resubmit all they labels for reapproval.

I am all for piling on Obama; but I have one question. While I don't care about the calorie count, is it hard for breweries to determine this info? I honestly don't know
Not really. The software used in creating recipes displays calories per pint.

When people are pounding beers they don't care how many calories are in them.
Some people may care how many calories are in their beer if they are drinking light beer which most craft breweries don't produce.

In terms of the size of a brewery it certainly does. Why would a smaller brewery bother with the labeling? And why would a larger one already distributing beyond the local scene worry over labeling costs?
