Comus and Momus.

The three true "old line" krewes are the three that told Dorothy Mae Taylor (RIP) to take her nondiscrimination ordinance and shove it where the sun doesn't shine.

That would be Comus, Momus, and Proteus.

Years later, after the Supremes threw it out, Proteus came back to parading, but the other two decided to stay away.

Comus was a truly awful parade, with some really bizarre, George Will - style themes such as "Famous 12th century European dramatic authors"

Momus wasn't a huge parade, and didn't throw crap, but was a satire parade, the forerunner of d'Etat in that genre.

Anywho, the ability for a non-relative to get in, is about the same as the ability for a non-relative to get a commission as a lower mississippi riverboat pilot. It is a family affair, steeped in old, old, OLD money.

Whereas Rex, while it has a TON of rich and influential members, regularly will accept new members if you have the right amount of money. Many large company CEOs and bankers and attorneys, both in NOLA and nearby, are members.

So you can’t take a few days off of work to go support your wife?

The Burger King parking lot on Degaulle was legendary.
the Burger King was always on the same level as in front of the jubilee at chalmette parades. Neither could hold a candle to vets across the street from puglia’s

They are basically letting every single person who wants to join get on in hopes of becoming a Super Krewe and being able to move to a better spot.

Why would they want to move spots, the first day of the big time parades is a great spot. Wednesday through Tuesday is loaded. Though Morpheus should lose its spot; its terrible. People clear out after Hermes and D'Etat.
