It's a commie land grab, this fricker isn't stupid..his leftist supporters will end up owning these buildings, and the useful idiots will end up on the outside looking in.

Begrudgingly have to agree with you point unless they can be sent back to their third world country of origin.

Maybe a fence could be erected to encircle metro NYC.

I really struggle with stuff like this.

I know all the baseline economic fundamentals and takeaways from any sort of rent restrictions. At the same time, I do hate some of these cities that have such extreme wealth concentration that their demand can drive pricing up to such an almost exponential degree.

The obvious answer is to flood the market with more supply, but in places like NYC that’s so hard without delivering it at a luxury level that drives pricing even further.

I love LOLing at all things Mamdani, but I don’t know how you fix what’s going on in NYC for anything close to affordable rent.

It's called the free market.

For example, oil towns experience boom and bust cycles. How is this any different?

People trying to fix it is what got it in this situation to begin with. The answer isn’t try and fix it but rather take the red tape and government shackles off and let the market fix it. Another way of fixing it is to quit bringing in millions of foreigners to change the demographics and voting habits. The high rent is due to high demand, which was caused by flooding the country with illegals, H1B visas, and “refugees”. Clear out those 3 categories from the city and I bet you see a lot of positive economic and social changes.

Government being involved in private business has always worked exceptionally well.
