NYT is more of a threat to Citizens than any petroleum based corporation.

They are the mouthpiece of the CIA and FBI

My question to democrats, what isn’t a threat to democracy? That’s their ducking catchphrase nowadays for anything they don’t agree with.

Authorities should also be concerned because the proposed deal could hurt Americans economically. Larger, consolidated oil companies have incentives to restrain production, restricting supply to artificially sustain high prices. Higher oil prices would mean higher gasoline prices at the pump — a classic antitrust concern.

This is the absolute ONLY reason anyone from government should look at this merger.

quote:

Even with these clear democratic and economic concerns, the legal path to blocking the deal could be difficult. In recent decades, the courts have not taken kindly to antitrust cases rooted in environmental or democratic arguments.

Good, because the arguments are bullshite.

It also doesn’t hurt to actually read/listen to exactly what opposing views are espousing, rather than just taking Tucker Carlson or Gateway Pundit’s word for it.

Very misleading statement. The combined production would be roughly 15% of the production in the Permian. Not exactly monopoly numbers….

Didn’t you know it’s an economic monopoly to have 6% market share?

Why are you wasting your time reading NYT opinion pieces?

They were once relevant and then the Internet and the World Wide Web happened. Now, I only wonder what they've been smoking to blather so much nonsense.

Which prices are rising much higher than inflation?

Private college tuition or gasoline and diesel?

The company said as recently as August that it continues to support the Paris climate agreement. But it also said that the world isn’t on track to reach the targets of the agreement. The Pioneer deal not only seems to be a huge bet to take advantage of that expected failure; it is also a commitment to contribute to the failure.

These two quotes are contradictory. Higher prices would mean less oil sold.

I agree that only having 2 or 3 massive corporations in a sector is a problem.

But I think the first two that should be forced to break up are Democrats and Republicans.

So his fear is that the big oil companies will simultaneously increase production promoting climate change and decrease production to keep price high?

the NYT is almost as transparent with who they target with "ending democracy" as W B Davis is with what flavor of OT threads he insists be moved to the PT

If Exxon were serious about preventing climate change, it could use its record $56 billion in net income from last year to invest more seriously in renewable energy, carbon capture and storage or other technologies that are compatible with long-term environmental sustainability

Exxon acquired Denburry Natural Resources this year for like $5B in a move to take advantage of Denburry’s CO2 pipeline network and underground storage for CO2 capture and sequestration

Yep, companies this size should be forced to break into smaller pieces, not merge into larger ones.

And you should divide your house into sections and rent parts of it out free of charge to others. See how that works. Rules for thee but not for me right?

Yeah he's contradicting himself in the most obvious and transparent manner

I'm not sure how he could possibly be unaware of this
