re: Carbon capture tech a 'complete falsehood', says Fortescue Metals chairman
Posted by Virgo on 2/16/24 at 6:03 pm
CCUS requires energy. Lots of it. But if you power it with low carbon energy (ie nuclear) then there is opportunity to significantly reduces co2 emissions.
Aside from being stored underground, CO2 can be captured, reacted with hydrogen made by splitting water with electricity (from nuclear), the...

re: FL doctor suspected of killing wife during procedure
it's even worse than that. The Dr's wife, who died, was actually performing surgery on patients, even though she had ZERO medical training. His "operating room" was never permitted, yet he performed multiple surgeries there.
I’m aware. We probably know some of the same people haha...

I’m interested in setting up some JBL Authentics series, JBL Bar 1300X, and some JBL XD-6 speakers for outside. Advice on how to do this? Or should I go with Sonos?
I’m leaning to JBL because I’ve seen reviews that the JBL Authentics 500 are better than the sonos 5, and the JBL soundbar is a goo...

Passport Name Question
Posted by Virgo on 5/17/23 at 8:54 pm
Wife and I are planning a short trip to France in August. We were married back in 2018 but never changed the name on her passport. Will we be ok to travel with her maiden name on the passport as long as I book flights and everything using her maiden name? We would bring other documents like marriage...

If American magic were to win the cup, they would defend the cup in Newport, not Pensacola. NY/Newport is their home. Pensacola is their US training site....

American Magic has been training in Pensacola for several years now. I don’t think it has anything to do with NY but rather great sailing conditions in Pensacola all year round. ...

Fwiw, my original OP was more inquiring about annual raises based on top performance. i understand career jumping is how you get the more substantial raises.
I’ve done a good bit of looking at competitor chemical companies on Glassdoor and search salaries and bonuses for their chemical engineeri...

I’m currently at my 3rd employer over these 10 yrs in industry, so I’m aware of making moves to get bigger bumps in pay.
I know a refinery ChemE with 12 or so years experience in Nola making ~$150k base, so I’m not too far below that after this years raise and considering the different market/lo...

I think it depends on the company you work for and their distinctions between engineer I, II, III, senior, principal, etc.
To answer your question though, I’m an engineer ii by my company’s matrix, although I had achieved the title “senior engineer” at my previous plant which was a much bigger ch...

I did receive a promotion in May ‘21 with a 5% raise. I will qualify for a promotion to the next level on our engineering matrix in a year or two.
Assuming I get a 5% raise this month, that’ll put me at ~$139k base which seems ok for 11 years experience and not working in TX/LA. I feel that as a...
