So based on your one single observation, it's alright to make blanket wide net assumptions?

I know someone home schooled until 8th grade. He got into Jesuit and has excelled. So obviously his parents did a great job.

Several people ought to lose their fricking jobs over this.

If someone took my child for 3 weeks over some bullshite, I would lose my shite.

They're more awkward than weird.

Yes. Psych major. She's incredibly intelligent.
I know a few others that are doing well in college. And some that just skated by and decided college wasn't for them.

It's hard to say whether home school works or not because there's not enough consistency across the board. Literally every student is going to have a different teacher. As opposed to 30 students in one class with the same teacher. And that teacher also has 3-4 more classes with 30 kids.

Kids that went to a public/private school definitely have more refined social skills. And that's definitely an underrated skill. Having good communication and social skills ultimately determines your success in life.

I have. Brilliant, and very smart, but they usually don't immediately have the social skills that other kids have.

Most people I know who homeschool make it a point to involve their kids with other kids in other ways, be it sports or other regular activities. I'm sure there are some that want to completely shelter their kids, but most of them realize the importance of interaction with other kids their age.

We've given thought to homeschool mainly because our choices of good schools around here are slim.

Wouldn't surprise me. At the previous school I worked at, we had parents that would pull their kids out to "homeschool" them if they were trying to avoid truancy court or if their kid had been suspended numerous times and had been referred to an alternative school.

based on the fact that her name is Kiarre instead of Kerri, I know exactly what the OT would do.

Couple of people in my med school class were home schooled until college. Turned out just fine it would seem anyway. Ones an orthopod and the other ent.

Also know someone's who's homeschooling their kid temporarily for a year while they do a fellowship

I understand the question and have had it myself. My wife homeschools our kids and uses a group called Classical Conversations that meets together weekly. It's some pretty advanced stuff as far as history and creative writing goes. Classic my trained kids tend to excel in college because critical thinking is paramount to that form of education. My kids also have to give a weekly verbal presentation to the class which helps them not be shy speaking in public. I've been incredibly impressed by what they know. As far as socialization goes I think that is changing. Homeschool is pretty wide spread these days with parents that know thieir kids need to be around other people. I seriously doubt you could tell my kids or really any kids from our homeschool group between other kids. If fact I find homeschool kids have an edge in interacting with adults.

Yes. One of my co-residents was homeschooled.

He is very intelligent and normal.

I've met 4 and 3 graduated college while the other one is only 8 years old. Of the 3 who graduated college, one graduated college at 17. He was in my physical chemistry class and his brother started college at 13. The other one was a friend of mine who came from a poor family and he graduated top in our field then went to med school and became a doctor.

Homeschooling will vary how dedicated the parents are to the child. In each of those 4 the parents were highly dedicated. Their life centered around their child.
