Single mother Kiarre Harris started researching homeschooling last November. She says her two elementary school aged children weren't excelling at their failing Buffalo Public Schools.

"I felt that the district was failing my children and that's when I made the decision to homeschool," she said.

Harris says she filed documents at Buffalo City Hall, following all the steps, informing the district of her intent to homeschool her children. According to documents she provided to 7 Eyewitness News, they're dated December 7th and the district says it received her paperwork.

"I spoke directly to the homeschool coordinator and she told me from this point on my children were officially un-enrolled from school."

Things took a turn when she says a week later, Child Protective Services called, wondering why her kids weren't in school.

"I told them that my kids were homeschooled now and that I could furnish the documents if they need to see them."

Thinking everything was fine, Harris says she went on with her homeschooling, but then, less than a month later she says she was confronted by CPS workers and police. According to Harris, they told her they had a court order to take her children and when she told them no, she was arrested for obstruction.

She says she hasn't seen her kids in three weeks, and they've been in a foster institution

Harris says she's a single parent and has always had full custody until her kids were taken away.

Interestingly, investigators took the time to comb through Harris’ social media posts to build a flimsy case of child neglect against her, but apparently didn’t bother to call City Hall to confirm her story.

“’Respondent recently posted a comment on social media ridiculing the school system and people who attend school or graduate from school,’” Harris read from a court document she received as evidence of her alleged neglect.

quote:

This should not have happened. Someone along the way, anywhere in the process after Dec. 7, should have simply said ‘Wait a minute, CPS should not be in here,’ the principal should have been circled back to and (told) these students were unenrolled,” said Franklin Redd, representative from the District Parent Coordinating Council.

The Buffalo Common Council is expected to address Harris’ plight at its Wednesday meeting, WKBW reports.

In practically every case, it's the other way around.

Has anybody ever met a normal homeschooled kid or one who was even remotely academically capable for college, serious question

I have. Brilliant, and very smart, but they usually don't immediately have the social skills that other kids have.

Had some distant relatives who were "homeschooled" - mom ate tomato sandwiches and read romance novels all day and her kids never came close to passing the GED. Both are in their late twenties and on disability now as far as I know. But it was what Jesus wanted, clearly.

Looks like she submitted for homeschooling but didnt actually start home schooling. This was evident in her social media in a blatant admission, that she wasnt going to start for a while because she was busy.

If you are going to start, you better have a plan. Here is her admission. BTW she hadnt even started anything by the time of her arrest in mid January

quote:

I am going to hold off until after the holidays. The 26th-1st there is a kwanza event every day in buffalo. So I'm thinking the second week in January. I'll let everyone know soon.

some nice comments from her as well

quote:

It's hard being black. We gota fight the white man and fight each other.

quote:

White people go out and search for ways to get an adrenaline rush. They sky dive, bungee jump, wrestle sharks and alligators and shite just to get their hearts racing. As black people, we don't have to search for that feeling. We get an adrenaline rush daily just trying to not get shot in our own neighborhoods, trying not to get arrested for driving while black, and trying not to have our lights and gas cut off before the deadline on the shutoff notice.
