torney for the Police Association of New Orleans, Eric Hessler, says the city didn’t have enough officers sign up to work details for the parade. To compensate, the NOPD had to pull two officers from each district, a total of 14 officers, to work the route. Still, that wasn’t enough and the entire Canal Street portion of the route was cut out.
“This was a private organization putting on a parade, so they had detail officers that would be paid by the organization to staff the parade route. From what I’m being told, there weren’t enough officers that elected to work the detail,” says Hessler.
There are about 1,000 NOPD officers, according to Hessler. He says that number is critically low and could affect the coverage of large events in the future.
Boo Captain Brian Kern says there were not enough officers to work along the parade route.
“The detail I was told required about 90 police officers,” Kern said. “They only had around 60 available.”
Fraternal Order of Police attorney Donovan Livacarri estimates 125 officers have left the force since the beginning of the year.
He says at the same time there have been less than 50 new hires.

Why would anybody sign up to be a police officer in a progressive shithole that hates cops?
You can be a cop on the Northshore where people dont hate cops

Nobody wants to work in that shithole city for that ugly nasty count.

With so few cops and all the other things going on in the city, that peaceful, Liberal utopia is sure to kick in at any moment.

New Orleans dug their own grave. The federal government and local/state agencies in places like Texas and Florida have more police applicants than they can handle. People will be cops, but not in a shithole place like New Orleans run by Democrats.

The President of the United States is parroting his Democrat orders in stating how he does not support cops.
Sad times for the police forces across the country.

How many officers did the NOPD have under Pennington during the forces skull cracking heyday?

They're working details. You have to pay the right rate. Do I work a Winn Dixie with zero issues for $55/hr or a parade fighting drunks for $35?

This is why BRPD refuses to work LSU games. After they changed their pay to give them a “raise”, the incentive to work LSU games was lost. They can work easier gigs for better pay. Not to mention 95% of them hate their lives under Broome and are actively looking for other employment.

I would think the types of people going to a Halloween parade are well behaved and could probably self police.

The Destroya's vaccine mandate went into effect last week. Sounds like it's a big success.

We sure that NOPD isn’t paying “ghost officers” like they were doing right before Katrina?
Payroll may have said over 1000 officers back in 2005 but they certainly NOPeD out of any work.

If ED209 accidentally took out some politicians in a demo, would anyone care?

I have yet to see the city list the number of officers. I see the fraternal order of police state the numbers in interviews and it's vague, never definitive. They are vastly understaffed, whatever the true number is. Ask queen Toya.

Nobody wants to let the bad guys know exactly how badly they outnumber NOPD.
Also, if you put a square number on it, you’re letting NO cops themselves know how just desperate their situation is. The ensuing exodus would make the shithole the city is now look like paradise.

If the base starting salary was $70,000 and then with overtime, holiday, event pay, etc officers would easily be in 6 figures, i legit doubt they could even fill to spots.
Sounds crazy but no one is gonna risk so much to possibly end up in jail over some BS.
Same with BRPD. They are down over 100 officers and they could pay officers what would easily get them in the 6 figure range and not all that many folks would do it
