The National Transportation Safety Board is recommending that all new vehicles in the U.S. be required to have blood alcohol monitoring systems that can stop an intoxicated person from driving.

The recommendation, if enacted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, could reduce the number of alcohol-related crashes, one of the biggest causes of highway deaths in the U.S.

The new push to make roads safer was included in a report released Tuesday about a horrific crash last year in which a drunk driver collided head-on with another vehicle near Fresno, California, killing both adult drivers and seven children.

You’re all for having to blow every single time you want to turn on your car in the name of “safety”? I bet you loved lockdowns too

“We need NHTSA to act. We see the numbers,” NTSB Chairman Jennifer Homendy said. “We need to make sure that we’re doing all we can to save lives.”

I’m sure it will be just a coincidence that Jennifer’s brother in law owns stake in a company that manufactures these exact systems

Nah, this is America. And what happens if there's an emergency at my house and I've had one beer? Oh well?

I don't drink and drive

However, I'm always wary of the slippery slope of more monitoring

Do I have to blow into the frickin thing before I go to work in the morning? Nah, I'm good

If you’re going to obligate people to wear a seatbelt, I fail to see how this oversteps any civil liberties.

I realize most here would come after me for that comment, but I had a good friend get killed years ago by a drunk driver and it's still going on every day.

Need to try something. JMO

The model used for this shite when it comes up every few years is a steering wheel that can detect the BAC through touch

I love overreaching regulation based off emotion as much as the next guy, but no.
