More worried about cell phone drivers than drinkers at this point.

Notice how everything they wanna do involves NERFing your world?

Gosh I bet they'd never abuse that system.

I'm not.

I think it's an absurd increase in cost for minimal gain. It's completely impractical.

Controversial opinion: Given the massive number of people looking at their phones while driving we are!’t actually doing as bad with accidents as one might expect

You're more likely to get in an accident with a distracted driver, but more likely to get killed by the drunk driver. One's more frequent, the other is more severe.

This entire thread is basically people saying "Well when I want to drive after drinking, I should."

There is an argument that cell phone usage while driving kills many people too. Is big brother going to lock cell phones?

It's more like the government should mind its own business. What's next, can they put governors on cars to prevent speeding?

You're at home having dinner with your family, a glass of wine, and your wife starts to have a heart attack. You can't drive your car. Congrats your wife is dead because you're a sheep
I'm 100% against this, but if your wife starts having a heart attack and you can't get to your car so you just let her die because you haven't figured out there's some other way to maybe get her to a hospital, you may have bigger issues.

I'd also argue whether you're drunk or not, your car has this device or not, you should be calling 911 if your wife is having a heart attack as opposed to driving her, but that's a different argument entirely.

This is ironic coming from an attorney. Attorney's would be pissed off the most.

The model used for this shite when it comes up every few years is a steering wheel that can detect the BAC through touch

Does the technology exist now? If it does why aren’t law enforcement using it? Is it not as reliable as breathalyzers? Then it shouldn’t be used.

As much as I like them, these new touch screen infotainment systems can be as more of a distraction than anything else manufacturers can put in a vehicle.

It's a comical overreach for something pretty goddamn low on the problem totem pole.

Drunk driving kills about 3X more people a year. Also, people think distracted driving is getting worse, but fatalities have been pretty flat over the past decade at about ~3000 a year.

Proposed law is dumb, but what would you do if that same emergency happened after you had 10-12 beers and was pretty good and drunk?

The law is bad enough, but the few folks stating there would just be absolutely nothing you could do if you were drinking at home and there was an emergency...you don't have to go that illogical extreme, the law is bad enough as is without the exaggeration needed.

Just curious how we get the # on that for those distracted on a cell phone?

If they die or simply won't admit to it, how can we ever get an accurate # out of that?

I'd guess it's more of an estimate then.

No Jennifer, no we don't. There's no limit to the term "all we can do." Wanna do "all we can do to save lives?" Change all speed limits to 10MPH and require 5-point harnesses and helmets for all vehicle passengers.

Like it or not we accept risk in the name of convenience every day.

Americans (in 2017) took 411 BILLION trips. That is an extraordinary inconvenience. Bureau of Transportation Statistics

The biggest opponents to this would be local law enforcement agencies. They need that DUI money.
