But, who is paying for this unnecessary addition?

If we got all the drunk driver's off the road probably 30% of accidents could be avoided , your insurance savings would pay for the contraption on your car

Will cop cars be equipped with the same devices and required to remain in working order? How about all local, city, state and federal gov't operated vehicles? I thought not.

Classic comment. This is why we are all fricked long term. Doesn't matter if shite works. Just need to try something so we can feel better.

"If it saves one life!"

These people are a pox on society.

btw-Note that the NHTSA can force this themselves. Not a law passed by congress.

There's your "deep state". We are no different than the Euros being ruled by unelected bureaucrats.

Would this fall under the fourth amendment - unreasonable search and seizure? How or why can someone be required to use a breathalyzer if they've never been previously arrested, much less convicted, of this offense?

And the other 70% would be avoided if Suzy could get her head out of the phone for 5 seconds and look at the road

Making cars out of stuffed animals and not allowing them to go over 2 mph would save lives.

People should just not drink & drive, freedom protected and problem solved! Simple.

Only if life were so simple

Options:

1. Do nothing

2. Aim to protect people from drunk drivers (ie, freedom for non drunk drivers and from drunk driver risk)

3. Aim to protect freedom for all (ie, no NTSB or any other restrictions)

4. Teach drunk drivers how to call Uber

5. Teach drunk drivers how to drive safer

6. Teach non drunk drivers how to drive safer

7. Other

Are you for reducing the speed limit on all roads to 10mph? Because that would reduce wayyyyyy more deaths on the road.

The recommendation, if enacted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, could reduce the number of alcohol-related crashes, one of the biggest causes of highway deaths in the U.S.

or, you know, DAs could prosecute DUI offenders more aggressively.

I seriously doubt drunk driving is 30% of wrecks. The vast majority are distracted drivers by their phone or radio or something like that

Bingo. Consumers will pay more for the vehicles AND more property taxes to the local LE agencies.

Terrible all around.

Can we do the same checks for senators and representatives before they are allowed to vote on laws?

If we are going full nanny state why not just make vehicles that are unable to exceed the speed limit too? I'm sure speeding causes a lot of accidents
