Even if it is terrorism, they'll likely not confirm it as not to encourage more acts like this.

Officials in Paris said the fire could be linked to restoration works as the peak of the church is currently undergoing a 6 million-euro ($6.8 million) renovation project.

Yeah. That just got a lot more expensive.

Given the rash of church vandalism in France, killing people doesn't seem like an objective

Anyone who dismisses large swaths of people as stupid people are usually idiots themselves, I find.

I see you haven't dealt with "the public" in your life travels. Large groups of people acting together are the dumbest beasts imaginable.

but I don't think it's far fetched to assume terrorism after a series of vandal attacks on churches recently, as well as the timing (of day and year) of the fire.

There have been a large number of church vandalism in France with the goal being vandalism, not deaths.

Security too high, and if someone deliberately did this, he wouldn’t have want to have been caught and have gone near closing time where there are less people.

Serious question: if Notre Dame is a French cathedral, why is the University of Notre Dame, the Fighting Irish?

This fire is terrible but much of the cathedral was damaged in the French Revolution and rebuilt and changed in the 19th century including the spire that was rebuilt in a more ornate style and most of the glass in the rose windows was replaced in a new design style. Many sculptures and ornamentation were also rebuilt.

doesnt really seem like security has ever really been an issue with organized terrorists attacks in the past. but maybe. and fire has never really seemed like organized terrorism, imo. if this has been politically motivated, i think we are dealing with a small group of people

On Fox, Cavuto just shouted down the President of the Catholic League for bringing up the recent rash of vandalism and arson against Catholic churches in France. Shouted him down, then they cut off his mic. [But, of course, speculation that it was a construction accident Fox permits to drone on unchecked]

The Fighting Irish was started when France was badass and had invaded Moscow within living memory.

They’d only get to the door if they wanted to bomb and kill as many people as possible. There’s no way on a Sunday Mass could you light that cathedral on fire. If this was a terrorist attack, I don’t think they’re trying to kill as many people as possible. They just wanted to destroy a jewel of Christianity, and if Islamic in nature, destroy a key piece of architecture of Western Civilization. And the Catholic Church has ruined enough lives through pedophilia that you can’t safely say whether it is Islamic in nature even if it is terrorism.
