So why would anyone actually pay for anything there if they will do absolutely nothing about it?
Seems like the only way they’ll do something about it is if everyone starts stealing.

They expect to have x amount of product stolen out of each store. To some degree they probably welcome it since they can write it off.

While it might seem like the right thing to do, if you see it, just keep going as if you didn't. You never know when some crazy son of a bitch will have a knife or a gun and will use it on you, if you are trying to stop them. Not worth it.

I witnessed this at a lowes in sulphur, and knew the two guys stealing the power tools. I watched them run across the parking lot and throw them in trunk and leave out with no chase.

I went inside and asked for manager to see if they had the two on camera and what the deal was.

She told me it's their policy to leave it be and not pursue. I heard what I needed.

I let it be. If they dont care, why do I

I know I'd be willing to invest in Gardere more if only the racists would build one. Would fit perfect right next to the sewerage treatment facility.

It’s not hard to understand that a company risks far more than the cost of a Dewalt saw if any employee is hurt. Better to just let the thief go than to risk litigation.
What litigation occurs on the behalf of the company for phoning in an license plate, given by witnesses?

This is what happens when cops don't give a shite about property crime, nobody gives a shite. I've been robbed multiple times, and the cops will tell you they won't even look for it, and just to file a claim.

Thousands of dollars in legal fees and settlements, bad press, if they wrongly accuse a person of color.

The only way to change this is to have 100s of people walk into every Home Depot, fill up carts, and walk out without paying all at once.

Bet they change that policy quick af

This seems to be contrary to everything you read on the web about Home Depot's policy other than non-security personnel are generally not allowed to confront shoplifters. But I guess some random guy on the web is more believable than any of things on the web or what common sense would tell us.

Plot twist: they DO prosecute, and they are making this go viral as bait for a sting operation.

No, just no. They'll probably get insurance to cover it, so there will be no write off, and even if they did it would be a tax write off, not the entire product.

I knew the first manager when the HD store on Highland opened. I was in there once talking to her when someone bolted out with several DeWalt combo packs, An employee gave chase and I was amazed when he returned to the store she ripped him a new one for pursuing the shoplifter. The built-in amount of mark-up to compensate for unexplained inventory shrinkage is astonishing too.

On a funnier note, several years later I was in the same HD store and observed the then manager trying to impress folks I could only assume were district managers or other bigwigs from elsewhere. This manager dude was helping two guys manhandle a hot tub that was right by the contractor entrance into the back of a pick up truck. After the truck had left, some wise guy employee loudly said “you realize they didn’t have a receipt for that?”. It was highly amusing to watch the manager try to explain that one away.

$100 BILLION a year in revenue is what. No need, worth more trouble in potential blowback sjw type lawsuits

Loss from theft on their financials is so damned insignificant it's probably mind blowing.
