Was at Autozone Friday afternoon. Walking to the front door, guy bolts out with at least 6-8 packages of windshield wipers, takes corner and is gone. When I get inside, the manager is on the phone. Not calling police, calling coporate to let them know. Told me policy is not to confront or chase, just make upper management aware. This is why we can't have nice things anymore.

VIETNAM and the apparent attorney were very heroic in their attempt to save Home Depot from this thief, but now VIETNAM has back pain as a result of his actions acknowledged by Home Depot.
Time to sue.
Time to sue.

Can I sue Home Depot because I spent a lot of my money there when apparently I didn't need to spend anything to get what I wanted?

I’d be happy to sit down with you to discuss your options. My rate is $250/hr.

Meanwhile, the little old lady employees eyeball the hell out of me and come to make sure I scan everything in the self check out line.

Took it to the manager and was told they do not call the police or prosecute theft anymore.
So just because some redneck manager in Denham Springs says they don't prosecute theft, you assume that's their corporate policy?
Did it occur to you that the manager may be involved in this and he's getting a cut?

Restorative justice
Home Depot's theft policies were negatively affecting people of color the most thus proving that the policy was inherently biased and systemically racist

I think I might head over there after work and load up a cart. Sounds like there products are free for the taking
Make sure you dress like you landscape for a living and have a nice tan.
If you dress like a businessman they might realize you have something to lose and pursue you.

You can literally walk out of Home Depot with thousands of dollars of tools, meanwhile I can't even buy a case of toilet paper at Costco without someone checking my receipt at the door like I'm a god damn criminal.

That some bullshite and really pisses me off. It encourages criminal behavior and makes the community your doing business with less safe.

PATRON seems like a doofus sort of like George Zimmerman. Let it go. The victim doesn't want to pursue it. Its over. Hopefully PATRON doesn't CCW. Also, what was the point of the chase if he was too pussy to do anything? Doofus.

and now you know why that $20 drill costs $120
its less about them not wanting to press charges and its more about their insurance liability dropping them if they risk an altercation surrounding shoplifting.
they literally tell employees they cant even speak the words stop thief or shoplifter without risking a million dollar lawsuit

The same people that support this shite are always the first ones to complain about high insurance rates and retail price increases too

What Happens if You Get Caught Shoplifting at Home Depot?
Large chains such as Home Depot often have high tech security systems and security guards in place throughout the store to deter shoplifting. When a Home Depot employee suspects you of stealing, they typically wait until you leave the store to confront you. Once detained, security will hold you at the store until the police arrive. During this time a store employee may attempt to ask you questions, but it’s imperative that you maintain your silence until your lawyer is present.
After the police arrive they will take you into custody. You will be held in jail until you either post bail or see a judge. Even if they do not take you to jail they will issue you a notice or summons to appear in court to see the Judge. During this process, it’s crucial to contact an experienced theft lawyer that has the knowledge and expertise to handle your case.
