What about flowers? Remember those yellow flowers with the black center? They used to call them nword tits. But growing up, the black kids used to call them that as well, but I am sure if some white liberal heard both races uses them in a conversation with each other their head would explode.

How are the eskimos who prefer to be called eskimos going to feel. I mean I thought you wanted to be inclusive? That’s not very inclusive. fricking stupid mother fricking people. I’d bet all my money that no one was offended by the name of a damn bird. But some a-hole needs attention.

Later in college, she became uncomfortable with the general practice of naming other living things after people, she said. When she began to learn more about the people behind some of the names, she found it "even more upsetting."

Why do we need more descriptive names for birds? We don’t push that with other animals. Big fat fuzzy brown salmon eater. Long neck brown spotted purple tongue. Spiral horned rock runner.

As a life-long birder, I think this is stupid, but at least they are removing human names regardless of the individual. Alexander Wilson, the father of modern ornithology, was against slavery, but will likely have his name removed from all 5 birds named after him.
Ironically enough, he thought all birds should have descriptive names, so probably would have been against those birds being named after him.
Plants and animals get renamed all the time for dumb reasons. Some people just can't help but to leave "their" mark on history.
Hell, one of the few birds named for Louisiana, the Louisiana Heron, was renamed years ago to the "tri-colored heron". Yeah, because that helps me tell it apart from all the other herons that have 3 colors on them.

There's only 12k of them...
And there aren't official common names for plants like there are for birds. Black-eyed Susan has always been a common name used for that particular species, among others.

In the spring of 2020, major events sparked a national outcry, protests over racism and police brutality, and a renewed focus on racism in the U.S. Two of those occurred on May 25. A white woman in Central Park called the police and falsely accused Black birder Christian Cooper of threatening her after he asked her to put her dog on a leash. Then in Minneapolis, police killed George Floyd.
Well there you have it. St George Floyd would still be here if not for the damn birds.

After reading the article, tbh I don't really have an issue with this.

A committee that considered the recommendations noted the blanket removal would avoid potentially contentious value judgments about the character and morality of individuals from the past.
New bird names will favor more descriptive names like the blue-footed booby or red-headed woodpecker rather than nebulous names like Ross' goose or Bachman's sparrow that give no clues about how to identify the bird.
This, on its face, makes a lot of sense to me. I just hate the fact that it’s being done primarily for feelings and not because it makes sense
