You never win, it's a proven fact when saying "frick the police".

Resisting arrest is a brush of many colors. It could be fighting a cop because you think you can take him, or it can be trying to prevent your arm from being broken behind your back by being bent the wrong direction.

If they know they are on probation and going back to jail then what do they have to lose? I think you'd be suprised by how many flee on foot and get away. Now...once caught, I'm not sure the reasoning.

It's part of their democratic culture

This x 100000
Also, if the arrest is unlawful, then resisting the arrest is not against the law. That doesn't address the question of whether it's a wise thing to do, but nevertheless, it's legal to resist an illegal arrest.

When you are a convicted felon and you have a gun on you, you already know you are going to jail fur good while. You don't really give a shite at that point and you donations shite. You can't fix stupid and you can continue to breed it.

I think there is a or is going to be cases where perps are going to try and take down a cop during these types of situations.

Piggyback question
How many people who were killed by police officers would not have been killed had they complied with the officer?

Let me offer my perspective. I am a federal agent and have been at it for over 12 years. I have arrested thousands of people over my career- rich, poor, black, white, Hispanic, after foot pursuits, through parking lots, in their homes and all other places in between. Some observations:
1) The majority of people don't resist. They may initially run if they think they can get away, such as if they see you coming from 50 feet away, but once you go hands on they generally stop resisting.
2) Those that do resist generally freak out once they feel that first cuff go on. It's the most dangerous time for a law enforcement officer. I've seen people that are 100% complaint, talkative, calm and accepting of their plight but when that first metal bracelet goes on, something triggers in their head. I don't even think they understand it. Suddenly your suspect is squirming and fighting and biting and kicking with one cuff on and you're trying to detain him while maintaining control of your weapon. Not a good place to be. What's interesting about this is often when I interview them afterwards and ask them why, they don't even remember resisting and flipping out.
3) Sometimes the bad guy resists because he thinks he can take me. We often make arrests alone and when it's you vs. him and he's been fighting his whole life, it's just another fight. You don't see those videos where the bad guy gets away. There's no one recording that with their cell phone. And if there is a bystander recording an officer getting owned by a street thug that video won't be shown on the next episode of COPS.
4) There isn't much risk to resisting and it has a high reward. If you get away, great. If you don't, you will likely get the charges dropped. I've been stabbed, spit on, shot at and been in more fights than I can remember. All of those should have netted a "Assault on a Federal Officer" charge. At the federal level anyhow, these charges are rarely sustained. They just use the threat of them to make them plea to whatever you initially were trying to arrest them for.

For some mysterious reason I've never been arrested. Then again, I don't argue with the cops. I just speak respectfully and politely and save any arguments I might have (if any) for a judge later.
Somehow the police just never take me in when I do that. Funny how it works that way, isn't it?

I was arrested for a PI, but I was also being an idiot.
Apart from that, I've never gotten a traffic ticket. Every time I've been pulled over I'm polite and respond to the officer using 'yes sir,' or 'yes maam' and they let me go without any repercussions
Respect goes a long way.

"Sir, I'm going to need you to go sit on that curb."
"Am I under arrest?"
"I need you to go sit on that curb"
"Why, am I under arrest?"
"GO SIT ON THE frickING CURB!!"
"Dude, I just want to..."
"HE'S RESISTING! TAKE HIM DOWN! PUT YOUR frickING HANDS BEHIND YOUR HEAD!"
Charge = resisting arrest.
your ignorance is showing
So when an officer tries to stop and/or check you and you resist, you are resisting arrest

that culture is also taught to lie to anyone and everyone.
