I bought my first shotgun at Service Merchandise in Cortana. My how times have changed. Imagine going to the mall to buy a gun now

I’m betting toy stores in general were first hit hard by Walmart. Smaller and local toy didn’t survive. Toys R Us I believe survived in large part due to it’s Baby R Us department. Amazon was the finishing blow.

Yeah the small old Walmart’s of the 1980s were really no different than the small old Kmarts. Walmart’s kept growing and became big and new, brighter with high ceilings. Kmarts, even the Big K stores, never seemed to emerge from the 1980s. Which I enjoyed in a weird way. Up until about 4 years ago there was an old Kmart hanging on not far from my house. I loved walking around there. So quiet and homey. No one there but a few old people.

Riding my bike down to Blockbuster on a Friday after school to get all the good movies and games was magical

Blockbuster by far for me, we didn't live all that close to a Toys R Us but we lived right next to multiple video stores including blockbusters

Malls are still around, but they’re not the social hubs they used to be, and they’re definitely next in line to go the way of blockbuster and toys r us.
However, I have zero idea why you say that might be a good thing. Would you prefer teens just stay home and communicate via social media instead?
In Los Angeles at least, high end malls (which are mostly smaller, outdoor shopping centers) are still thriving, but they’re success is driven by restaurants rather than retail.

Never big into toys or us but as a kid I loved rolling into the local movie store to rent a new video game. Didn’t have blockbuster specifically but treating that as semantics.
Stay up late and try like hell to beat whatever game in the 2 days.... good times.
