Mecca and Medina. That's where islam lives, and since Saudi Arabia has been known to have aided terrorists, I don't really give a shite if they are incensed.

What are western "leaders" worried about? Do they think an attack on islam will spark global warfare and acts of terrorism?

Newsflash: it's going to happen anyway. That's what they're working toward.

I agree that could work but only under the condition that the Kurds are allowed to keep that territory as their own and backed by UN. We can't keep hanging these people out to dry. They need their own official state.
I agree. The big problem is dealing with Turkey throwing an absolute fit over the Kurds getting sovereignty. We're dancing on a razor's edge with Turkey--we need them as an ally because they're an important check on Russia's regional power, and because we get to use military bases in Turkey. They allow us to project power into the Middle East. However, there's a lot of evidence that Turkey has been complicit in ISIS's ability to move across the Turkish-Syrian border, and Turkey has prevented the Kurds in northern Syria from capturing certain important border cities like Jarablus by shelling the Kurds when they've attempted to advance toward the city.

But I agree, I think the Kurds need and deserve their own state, and I'm glad we're giving so much aid and support to the SDF/YPG in Syria. Not only are they effective allies on the ground, they are also stalwart in their resolve to protect human rights in the region, even for those who they hate the most. (For instance, they do not execute or torture their ISIS captives).

The only way that will work is if in addition to us getting out of the Middle East, we likewise send back to the Middle East every Muslim man, woman, and child currently living in the west. Let them have their caliphate in the ME while we go on with our way of life in the West. are you willing to do this instead of bombing them into the Stone Age?
Spoken like someone who doesn't know any Muslim Americans.

nd we're more or less following that strategy, at least as far as supporting ground forces against ISIS

I do wonder if the recent attacks fueled by ISIS realizing they are losing this war, and they understand these highly publicized, brutal attacks on civilians leaves the perception that they are winning.

They also want to unify the world under a single empire (Caliphate / Imperial Japanese Empire)

ETA: They also have no qualms about using women and children to further their militaristic advances (ie Battle for Okinawa, and women / children being used as bomb delivery systems in the Middle East)

This would have been my response had you not anticipated that point.

I tend toward the non-presence option, as I think our presence will be a continual source of angst for radicals.

Your point on radicalizing through strikes is certainly valid, although the more swiftly we accomplish it, the better, yes? Snuffing out terror organizations before they gain a foothold with the populace would be ongoing and incredibly difficult (we'd need to greatly restore our IC), but theoretically, I think it would be the most feasible and successful of mediocre options.

Turkey is done. The patients are running the asylum and it will only get worse. I think we should move our assets from Turkey into the newly formed state of Kurdistan.

I tend to agree with this. Darth's genocide mission would cause more bad than good IMHO.

Absolutely. Every militant action we take seems to backfire and create negative blowback. This "war" is the textbook of unintended consequences.

This. We need to completely stop supporting anything ME financially.

Additionally, screw helping to train and fund the enemies of ISIS in the ME. How many times have the people we trained then turned around and used their new weapons and training on us?

I would say we go to extremely diligent screening on any refugees, stop funding them, and make them hash it all out themselves in the ME. Dictators will likely form back, but that is what they are doing to themselves. Enough of the population will not listen to a democratic leader so screw it.

I also think we are very close to the point of having civilian terrorism back at the muslims. There are going to be French and Germans that have had enough and start to terrorize the Muslims back. I'm not sure what to do at that point.

I'm not sure, I think they were going to happen anyway, although I could believe that the ISIS attacks in places like Baghdad could be fueled by desperation. I think the attacks by those loosely affiliated by ISIS (or "inspired" by ISIS) in the west were unlikely to be directed by ISIS leaders. But that's purely my speculation.

I do believe, based on everything that's been happening on the ground in Iraq and Syria, that ISIS is losing, and I believe their leadership knows it.

To what particular action "we" took do you attribute this psycho beheading an 86 year old priest in response? I'd love to know what "we" can stop doing, so as to stop "them."

That's an interesting idea. Moving bases to a sovereign Kurdistan would still allow us to project power in the Middle East, it would add legitimacy to their claims of sovereignty, and it would offer them protection against Turkish invasion (which I do believe would be a threat to a sovereign Kurdistan).

However, there would be a problem with that: Kurdistan would be landlocked, and I know nothing about military logistics. Would that pose a problem with maintaining bases there? I guess we managed just fine in Afghanistan, so maybe it wouldn't be a problem. But there'd be the problem of airspace... if Turkey becomes unfriendly, we'd be left with former Russian states, Iraq, and Syria for airspace.
