However, there would be a problem with that: Kurdistan would be landlocked, and I know nothing about military logistics. Would that pose a problem with maintaining bases there? I guess we managed just fine in Afghanistan, so maybe it wouldn't be a problem. But there'd be the problem of airspace...
They're currently landlocked and are operating pretty well.

It's very well moderated and they do a good job of marking stories and sources an unconfirmed, confirmed, biased in a certain way, etc. You can branch out from there.
curious where you get some of your information? You seem to be well versed in these things.
Many of the people there are way more knowledgeable than I am.
I tend to know what's going on in Syria and Iraq well before western media reports on breaking news.

To what particular action "we" took do you attribute this psycho beheading an 86 year old priest in response? I'd love to know what "we" can stop doing, so as to stop "them."
Probably not a thing.
Recent attacks are by radicalized individuals taking it upon themselves to become "soldiers" for the cause. What can we do to reduce the propaganda?
The best solution would be a regime change in SA (and other places) that stops the flow of money to these people who have a very professional propaganda machine.

Let them have their caliphate in the ME while we go on with our way of life in the West. are you willing to do this instead of bombing them into the Stone Age?
Spoken like someone who doesn't know any Muslim Americans.
OK, what do we do then? It's a proven fact that wherever Muslims spread, they bring terrorism with them. First I gave a solution of making them see that to continue to carry our terrorist attacks would result in the destruction of their homeland. Well that was not good enough for you. OK, well the only other way to stop them from carrying out terrorist attacks on the west is to remove them from the west. And that's not an answer to you either.
OK, well how do you think we can stop them? I'd love to hear your solution.

Talking about blowback is not the same as indicating we did something to "cause" the blowback in the sense that we've brought it on ourselves.
You certainly sounded like you were condemning him for that comment, when I think he's just describing the world as it is.

We'll eventually drain it, but it'll hopefully put off the apocalyptic yearning for a bit

Then we need to continue empowering, encouraging, and supporting our allies in Iraq and Syria to create stability in their countries by creating inclusive governments that represent the various ethnicities and factions that exist. We cannot afford to allow groups to be marginalized, because that fuels fractiousness and radicalism.
These two things combined will halt the flow of refugees into the west. They will undermine the narrative of radical, anti-west Islamism. This strategy will allow us to continue projecting our influence on the Middle East without being viewed as invaders, occupiers, or oppressors.
Killing innocents is the exact opposite of what we need to do.

Man, that seems like a risky proposition. Who would you possibly replace that with?

Correct. This started long before we put troops on the ground to push Iraq out of Kuwait. Russians invading Afghanistan, creation of Israel....all of these things created the machine we see today.
I'm not sure there's anything that could be done to stop it outside of allowing it to die off, and strictly watching who we allow in the country.

This will never happen. It's just not how the ME works.
As much as it sucks, Assad is likely the best answer we currently have.

All Muslims are located where?
Exactly.
They've permeated the entire world and its impossible to just carpet bomb them. We can to ISIS, but that just leaves a void for another Muslim terrorist group.
Japs had the Emperor. When he surrendered, they all immediately stopped (except for those looney toons in the islands that didn't hear the war was over).
There is no Muslim terrorist Emperor that we can beat into submission. Cut the head off and 3 grow in its' place.
Honestly, I have no idea what to do at this point.

Not to be the naysayer without alternatives, but what is your gut optimism level that this is realistic?

I know this may be asking to much but for one moment, set aside emotion and use logic to consider this issue.
Problem: Terrorists are increasingly carrying out attacks in the West.
Details: All the terrorists are Muslims who look and act like regular Muslims right up until the moment they strike. They live in and among the Muslim community which itself refuses to intergrade into Western society.
Terrorist Goals: Destruction of Western Civilization to be replaced with Islamic Caliphate in the West.
So that's what we're looking at. They want to kill you, me, and anyone else who does not submit to their Caliphate. There is no middle ground for them. They will get everything or die trying. So how do you stop such an enemy? Logic dictates either you destroy them or they destroy you. The only other option is to remove them from the West and let them have their part of the world while we have ours. If you know of another solution, let's hear it.
Posted on 7/26/16 at 11:26 am to Hog on the Hill
while I'm skeptical of our ability to do all of that, that is certainly the most logical path forward and goal

No, I wasn't really meaning to do that. I just think it can be folly to think there must ALWAYS be some sort of correlation to something "we've" done every time this shite happens. I don't think Roger is one who ascribes to that position, though.
