The PANO president also stated that the task force will have the ability to circumvent the U.S. Department of Justice-mandated Consent Decree, which governs NOPD officers:

“Except now directed by LaToya Cantrell, they will not be under the direction of the NOPD, they will be under Homeland Security, where they can be issued Special Officer permits to carry weapons and circumvent the POST requirements that real police officers must meet.

I’m confused by this. I know a few people who for NOHSEP and they’re all good / decent people. But I don’t know if they’re qualified to oversee a police force.

And what will this police force be tasked with?

Who is "they?" What were the findings?

I've no interest in what Latoya's third neighbor down the street who works at Folgers has to say about it.

That said, are we the only country that doesn't have a general national police agency?

This is a standalone thread for another day but you're absolutely right. I am a fed and routinely work with other national police agencies. It's amazing how functional they are compared to our alphabet soup. They've streamlined the intelligence sharing and procedural protocols. There's no destructively rivalry with sister agencies, no duplicate forms or a hundred separate databases that don't handshake.

We should have folded all the three letter agencies into one criminal investigator body decades ago.

The Consent Decree was issued by the Justice Dept to battle corruption in the NOPD. The NOPD is under Federal supervision

LaToya’s police will be the opposite. Don’t let the fact Homeland Security is involved give you the impression this will be a federal police force. Their job will be to issue weapons permits to LaToya’s personal police force.

Why is that needed? Because real police officers have to undergo actual police training, meet certain standards, and pass evaluations before they are allowed to carry weapons, enforce laws, and arrest citizens.

LaToya is about to have her own Gestapo to enforce her opinions upon the city.

the utterly amazing thing is this is happening during the BLM era

BLM not immediately protesting this expansion of police power (given to likely untrained and unprepared people) is INSANE

government bureaucracy is something nobody can contain b/c we've allowed fedgov way too much power the past 100 years

Not trying to argue with you but I just like to correct incorrect statements regarding Firearms when I see them made so as not to spread leftist propaganda.

Open carry is perfectly legal in the state of Louisiana. You don't need to be post certified to put a firearm on your hip and walk around.

Any joblo citizen can enforce laws through citizen's arrest. Again, no post certification needed.

The real reason for being post certified are the legal protections that are provided by the state for duly commissioned law enforcement officers.

Ehh... I get how it may seem better from your perspective but consider this, it's easier to charm a single headed snake than a multi-headed one.

Federalism and dispersed power is what laid the groundwork to make this country great. Consolidation of power is almost never a good thing. But I agree with you on streamlining federal agencies for the sake of efficiency.

Yeah, everyone on the inside of these agencies talk a good game and say things like, "We don't care who gets the arrest; we just want the bad guy to go to jail" but it's 100% lip service. Agencies hoard intelligence not only from each other but from other offices and other cities within their own organization.

It's inefficient, wasteful and makes us less effective at investigating criminal activity. The only way to curb the government bloat is to dissolve the agencies and create one force with the same standards, policies, and procedures across the board.

This isn't referring to the federal government, it's the City's Homeland Security.

Again, there is no chance they push to increase police funding.

The 2021 budget cuts are huge due to obvious reasons, but even before there was no support for reducing police funding.

2020 had an increased budget for the police than 2019.

This together with the new "District Attorney's" policies should turn NOLA into Mogadishu in no time. Gonna be a sad watch.
