Who would have anticipated such issues?

Austin, for comparison:
quote:

In May of 2016, the same month Uber and Lyft made the decision to leave Austin, the monthly rate of drunk driving incidents was down to an average of 358. However, within the first few months of Uber and Lyft’s absence, the number of DUI arrests increased by 7.5 percent from the previous year. In the month of July alone, the city had 476 drunk driving arrests.

Lincoln Parish/Ruston arrested more people for DUI every weekend than were arrested in EBR (according to my reading of the Advocate for years, in the mid 90s to mid 2000s) despite having 5-10% of the overall population of EBR.

I am being told by people inside the department that they are fielding something like 600 uniform officers to cover the entire city 24/7. That's scary as hell.

I hear similar numbers.

Saw a baw kill not one but two hip flasks in traffic the other afternoon.

He was driving better than 99% of the drivers on the road.

Good. Spend time on murders and don’t worry about DWI checkpoints. I’m good with that….if they spent the time on murders…

Always been mind boggling to me that with DWIs you get the same penalty for blowing a .08, 1.8, or 2.8 etc.

Basically you get the same penalty if you drink 2 beers as opposed to 2 cases of beer.

I passed one doing about 90 when I was driving through the east. My passenger was appalled. I had to explain to her that they've got bigger fish to fry than speeding.

I think the penalty for blowing a 1.8 or 2.8 is death

When I'm working in Orleans parish, I treat red lights as stop signs. It's the wild west out there

This is nothing, homicides are solved or cleared at a 50% rate in this country. And in cities like Nola it’s prob under 40%.

Now of course they will say racism because no one cares about black people being murdered. But they also recently rioted and called to defund the police.

So if you police them, it’s racist. If you don’t, it’s racist.

I feel the opposite. White people with white collar job ain’t getting murdered. It’s mostly thug on thug shootings. Let them kill each other. But I certainly am at risk for getting ran over by drunks.
It’s not really the need for checkpoints though. You can hit a parked car, throw up on your shoes, and have slurred words … they’ll still let you go

There are no cops to be seen in Nola. I don't drive drunk but if I decided to start, now would be the time. It's the wild west.
