It's not only impossible to field a complete police force in most cities, it's also hard to field a police force.

Isn't this gun safety 101?

Likewise aren’t you supposed to eject the mag and clear a weapon before you hand it to somebody?

It is frightening the number of cops who aren’t “gun guys.” I went through POST basic in 1994 and, even after two weeks on the range - still had two clowns who would regularly punch holes in targets adjacent to their lane. From “strong side, barricade” no less.

I didn’t hear why he was pulled over (regular driving violation or getting arrested for something worse), or if any legal issues with him having a gun.

When watching I just thought it was their process for someone who tells them he has a gun. They get control of gun and then it goes back to whatever it was. Just not sure why pulled over, but just saying he was being compliant doesn’t automatically mean they were not arresting him.

There was more than one brain dead cop at the scene that day... and it was December 13th's winner.

I've watched a ton of videos on stuff like this from Donut Operator and some 1A auditors. Cops will claim it's because they need to make sure "they" (themselves) are safe when performing a stop. I can see that, although I believe a cop should be well-trained and have backup/support right there in the event that the detained individual tries to John Wick multiple cops. If suspected of a crime they have to verify that the person who is armed is legally allowed to carry. I think it's fine even though it tip toes along 2A rights since you're allowing cops to disarm you freely as long as you are compliant.

Usually the cops will get the person out of the car and remove the gun for safety reasons.

While not trying to ‘say’ anything you do realize that just because someone is being compliant doesn’t mean they will intend to stay that way.

Well they would have to determine a law was broken or a constitutional right was denied, I believe.

They should get creative.

Qualified Immunity Bro.
They can literally shoot you and they can't be held liable.

Tell me you have no idea how qualified immunity is or how it is applied to cases like this without saying I have no fricking clue what it is or how it works. A quick google search is your fried instead of copblock or whatever bullshite site you follow. By the way the cop shouldnt be the police

Cop didn’t even ask what condition the gun was in before touching it. These should be basic questions anyone wearing a badge should know.

Lucky for that guy he can continue not working for a living

I'm not surprised, and these are the type of people we are supposed to depend on when we are in mortal peril. Most cops I've met aren't qualified to work at a Publix.

Not all handguns have safeties. If you are handling a strangers gun for the first time you should treat it as if the safety is off & there is one in the pipe. Everyone should know that , especially a Cop.

Hell that's the way all guns are supposed to be treated all the time, whether it's yours or somebody else's

And for all those explaining why they got him put of the car and took the gun from him, idk why they had pulled him over or if he was getting arrested or something but I've been pulled over several times and told the officer I have a concealed carry permit and where the gun is on my person and they couldn't have given a shite less. One time the guy asked me what I carried and we talked about our personal tastes before he let me go with a warning for speeding

Well this sure as hell isn’t going to help the stereotype that cops shoot black people. This guy was completely compliant, did the right thing in telling them he was carrying and still got shot.
