Yeah. Locals. Nothing in Nola is for locals. I can understand some of it, but most is stupid. The no grilling is ridiculous. It’s part of the Mardi Gras Day.

Yep, frick this shithole city. Millions of actual problems, and families enjoying parades is what they decide to tackle. This city deserves every last ounce of shite it gets,.

All emotion, f**k the reasonableness. Name call all that have a different opinion. There’s a name for your type.
Feel free to quote that and cast aspersions. It seems to suit you.
You’re obviously too young to remember when MG was much more civil. Back then Krewe’s paraded throughout the city neighborhoods which diluted the huge crowds we see today on the Avenue. There was no need to camp out all day because the parades didn’t last all day in most locations. What we have now is a result of unintended consequences. But who back then pictured what we would have today? I doubt few or maybe they did but thought the consolidation of dwindling city resources was a good trade off. The neutral ground during parades is anything but neutral, as those that have the means, manpower, connections, or fortitude win the day. It can be one of the most New Orleans-like welcoming hospitality scenes… or one of the worst. And since when is having bbq pits and boiling pots where tons of kids are playing (or trying to snag a throw) a good idea?
If these restrictions help that kind of BS I’m all for it. Surely you will disagree with this, but you’ve already pegged yourself as an out of towner that likes to come in and act like an authoritarian on the topic to your subjects that know even less than you.
We know better.

No shite Mardi Gras has changed throughout the years. My dad (75) still tells me about the majority of parades that rolled in the French quarter. Mules and trailers.

The Krewes out grew their routes. People just adapted. There are certain aspects of Mardi Gras I despise like tents and ladders but I still have very found memories of me and my friends sleeping in a truck on st Charles Avenue after just watching Endymion in mid city. Getting up early and partying all day again in anticipation of bachus.

One thing that blows my mind is you can’t bring your own portalets. The city puts 100 of them on napoleon then it’s no man’s land for a mile or two before you see another one.

there is a guy at Milan who puts up the huge box style platforms for kids to stand on, chains them together, and yells at anyone who comes near his turf.

He is a royal a-hole. Guys like him can get fricked.

Funny, just last evening we saw hundreds of tents, tarps and encampments all over the city. As a bonus there was a guy with a 5’ bbq pit hitched to the back of his small SUV selling some type of cooked “meat” on the side of Poydras near the Dome.

So you're fricked if it rains. Or if its 90.

You weren't setting up your stupid tent on the parade route to keep you dry in the rain, and it's never 90 during Mardi Gras.

You were putting it up to be an obnoxious prick and claim your own section of the neutral ground where you felt like you could tell other people to leave.

And there is gonna be more piss on the streets.

Holy shite, are you one of those pathetic assholes who drags all three out there, tarps, tents, AND porta-potties?

I can't tell you how delighted I am that they're shutting your bullshite down.

I'm glad kids are going to be able to run up and down the neutral ground again like they could when I was a kid, before all of you dicks decided that you were entitled to a piece of the ground because your loser arse put a tarp down at 4am and sat on it, conquering your spot 8 hours before a parade even started.

HAPPY MARDI GRAS!!!

We are in the block between Milan and Gen Pershing. There are some real tools up in there, but a lot are like us - we set up a spot, w lots of friends and family. But anyone is welcome provided they aren't assholes.

We are often next to a group with about 30 of those stupid boxes, lined up side by side for 3 rows. They are territorial and idiotic. The funny thing is, they block off space so well, they can only access it by walking through our stuff. Sometimes I build a chair barricade just to inconvenience them.

Also, they aren't there half the time. or there is like 4 people there. They suck

Dramatic much? If I choose to spend my time sitting out for a spot, why do you have an issue with that? It couldn't possibly be your sense of entitlement to show up when the parade starts and expect be right in front. No, the entitled person in this scenario is clearly the person that put work into it. I assure you I have no special resources or connections most anyone else could have.

I've been either on St Charles and Milan or Napoleon and Camp area my almost 40 years of life and I've had two Rexes in my family. You couldn't be more wrong.

I'm good with banning scaffolding and similar stuff like that. Especially when they set it up right on the curb.

My biggest issue is there are way too many additional things included in this ban.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable for people to be able to show up before a parade starts and have a place to stand. That’s where the issue is. The tents and couches and tables and all that other shite take up so much space that there is no place for the average parade goer to just show up and enjoy a parade.

An ice chest with food & drinks and a chair or 2 should suffice.

Absolutely false. They can stand behind everyone that got there before them. That's how general admission events work. You want you and your kids up front, put in the work.

I don’t expect to be in the front, I’d rather not actually. I just don’t want to fight the territorial bullshite that comes with people setting their living rooms up on the neutral ground.

Yep. Just like they'll be standing behind ladders, tables, and chairs with the new rule.

So stand behind them or... gasp.... find open space not by people like that. Yall act like every last inch of the neutral ground is covered by tents and tarps. That's not even true on Bacchus Sunday.

Never had my car broken into once. Never been robbed at gunpoint once. Almost guarantee you pussies can’t say the same. My buddy loves living in Nola, just accepts that his car has been broken into twice in front of his own home and had to pay to change the key ignition so it couldn’t be jump started. You just have battered wife syndrome and you’ll defend that trash can of a city at all costs.
